Congratulations to the Stage 3 students who went on the excursion to Stradbroke Island last week with Ms Organ, Mr Nilon, Mr Caleb, Miss Kelly, Miss Amanda and Miss Arneeka. All staff members reported that the behaviour of the group was outstanding and they were a credit to their families and the school. I would also like to thank all the staff for giving up their time to accompany the children. It is a big ask to be away from your own family for a week and we appreciate their dedication and hard work. Thank you Julie Zorzo and B.C. Hats for donating hats for our staff to wear on the excursion. NAPLAN NAPLAN results will begin coming home for Year 3 and 5 students before the end of this term. This year was the first time these students completed the tests online and only the second time the school has accessed the tests via the internet platform. Thankfully, we did not experience any of the online disruptions that other schools did and the children were comfortable with this form of testing. When looking at your child’s results it is important to remember that NAPLAN is one test on one day. For some children their results will be a true reflection of their abilities, for some, we know the results do not match their abilities and for others they will achieve higher results than expected. What we also know is that NAPLAN is an academic testing platform and does not measure social and emotional, sporting, problem solving, creativity or collaborative skills, all essential to be well rounded individuals. If you wish to discuss your child’s NAPLAN results, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with the class teacher.

Parent and Community Engagement for Student Learning

Parents, carers and other family members have a significant influence on a student's success at school. The more parents and carers engage in learning, the greater the chance that their children are engaged, motivated and confident learners. This late-afternoon session is designed to be attended by parents/carers and community members. Professor Adrian Piccoli, the Director of the Gonski Institute for Education will be leading this session and will talk on the topic: Too much parental involvement with schools or not enough? How the pressures of the 21st century are changing the roles of parents. This session will be followed by a Q & A with Professor Piccoli.

What has been happening in Preschool? The tinker table was very popular this week. The children loved using the screw drivers to pull apart an old computer. Some children used wood, hammers and nails to make different sculptures. They have grown confidence in themselves and show a strong sense of responsibility when using the tools. If you have any broken electronics we can pull apart, we would love to use them in Preschool. Outcome 4: children are confident and involved learners.

Staff Changes Due to staff changes during Term 4, Miss Keed will be teaching in the school on Mondays and Tuesdays. Ms Guy will be taking the Echidna group in the Preschool each Monday and Tuesday.
