JANUARY 2014 – SUMMER WORKSHOP OPEN
st thFrom July 21 July to August 8 , the third annual “Bridging Prague” international
summer workshop will take place, traditionally focused on the riverside in the thhistorical city centre. We accept applications until May 15 . Details of the
programme and results of the previous workshop can be found at www.archip.eu.
TERREFORM ONE – ONE LAB PRAGUE The content of Global Architecture + Design is connected with the non-profit
organization Terrereform ONE (Open Network Ecology), based in Brooklyn, New York,
USA (www.terreform.org).
Members of Terreform ONE are interested in ecological architecture and
urbanism, speculative town planning, with unconventional materials and technological
processes and also in a multi-professional design approach. Also their ONE Lab school
(www.onelab.org) aims for education of new, complex professionals for planning and
building of cities, who would be called “urbaneers”. Co-founders and leaders of Terreform
ONE are Joachim Mitchell, director of research, and Maria Aiolova, director of education.
She leads also the whole Global Architecture + Design program, which she introduced in
person at ARCHIP at the beginning of the term. Besides Prague, ONE Lab has expanded
also to Berlin and Barcelona – and all European branches are in contact.
Thanks to Terreform ONE and CIEE for collaboration on the programme so far.
GLOBAL ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN – CIEE STUDY With the turn of the semester, a new one-term study programme for architecture students
from the U.S. starts at ARCHIP.
Study of Global Architecture + Design is offered by CIEE – Council on International
Educational Exchange (www.ciee.org). The programme takes the form of a special
Architectural Design studio, focused on speculative architecture, based on digital
technologies. The instruction of Global Architecture + Design is arranged by a new
international team of architects: projects are led by Adam Vukmanov (RS), a seminar by
Martin Hejl (CZ) and a workshop by Alessio Erioli (IT). The leader of the program is
professor Imrich Vaško (SK). Technical equipment promotes use of new technologies for
research and design, including a 3D printer. Apart from the studio work itself, the
programme features many trips and excursions, to explore Prague and other places within
Czech Republic.
CIEE students can pick also the other courses, offered in our Bachelor programme.
“ ”The final joint presentation and exhibition introduced projects from all 3 years, with the
same theme.
The “Kyje Link” project was a development of terraced houses for an area in
Prague 14-Kyje – based on a master plan designed by Schindler Seko Architects
(www.schindlerseko.cz). Terraced houses were chosen as a good form of urban housing,
with high density and efficient use of plots – while keeping an individual character for
different houses. Within given spatial limits, students designed dwellings according to
demands of 3 real clients, different in their life style and family situation. The brief for the rd st3 year specified two houses, with a shared garden – while the 1 year did their own
housing as the main term project. Each studio (Palašèák, Schindler, Wertig) was
responsible for two rows of houses – and the whole development was presented on a big
model in 1:50 scale.
Thanks to all who participated on “Kyje Link”!

FEBRUARY 2014 – ANOTHER ADMISSIONS ROUND Thanks to all who submitted their application to our Bachelor programme in the
st1 admissions round. In addition to regular students, we also accept those who
are interested in transfer or visiting study. The deadline for online application nd stand portfolio for 2 round is 31 March – details to be found at www.archip.eu.
“SUSTAINABLE REGION” – GRANT PROJECT ARCHIP got a grant for the development of an educational programme called
“Sustainable region. Education for a sustainable regional development”.
The project has two main parts. First, 5 educational programmes will be prepared
in the form of interactive e-learning, covering key fields for sustainable regional
development: sustainable urbanism, sustainable transportation, sustainable landscape,
sustainable community development and management of land with participation of the
public and stakeholders. After that, there will be a workshop on each theme, featuring
lecturers and local experts, aiming for pilot testing and finalizing of the programmes. The
target groups are public government institutions, non-profit organizations and the private
sector from Karlovy Vary Region. The project will be working on specific examples and
data from this area. Later, the educational programmes will be available to the public.
The “Sustainable region” project will run for more than one year, from May, 2014
to June, 2015.
GLOBAL AD – TRIP TO VLTAVA CASCADE The Global Architecture + Design studio also works on the project for Kampa Museum, but
focuses rather on the river and the flood protection itself.
For a better understanding of the whole Vltava, the studio made a two-day trip to
South Bohemia – and aside from landscape and historical towns, they visited also some
dams on their way back (Lipno, Hnìvkovice, Orlík a Slapy). The Vltava cascade is formed
by 9 dams, mostly from the 1930’s to 1950’s, that work not only for regulation of the river,
but also for production of electricity – and lakes are used for transportation, industry and
recreation. Students learned about the history and construction of the dams, with rules for
controlling the water level in case of floods. The cascades’ capacity of protecting Prague
and other cities is limited. The most interesting part was the possibility to explore the
technology of individual dams up close and from inside.
A report from the trip and also from other activities of Global AD in Prague,
Barcelona and Berlin can be found at study-abroad-blog-architecture.ciee.org.
“ART KAMPUS” – PROJECT FOR THE SUMMER TERM In the summer term, students work on possible changes to the buildings and
neighborhood of the Kampa Museum, situated in the historical core of Prague.
Kampa Museum (www.museumkampa.cz), situated in the historical building of
Sova’s Mills, directly on the bank of Vltava river is a gallery of modern art, run by the Jan thand Meda Mládek Foundation. It presents collections of two important 20 century fine
artists (Fratnišek Kupka and Otto Gutfreund), owns several other collections and also
organizes short-tem exhibitions. Students, including those working on their Bachelor
project, will develop a new organization and extension of the institution – in different
scales and extents. The academic project was developed in close collaboration with the
museum and the brief reflects its real problems, especially a lack of space and necessary
flood protection. An important part is also the landscape and public space design, and
response to the unique historical context.
Work on the project started with a detailed excursion, followed by analyses .

RD MARCH 2014 – 3 ANNUAL “RESITE” CONFERENCE This year’s “reSITE” festival was introduced in Prague, with the topic of cities
and landscapes of the new economy. The international conference takes place th thfrom 19 to 20 June in Forum Karlín – and will present attractive speakers.
Details on the event, co-founded by ARCHIP two years ago, are at resite.cz.
“INTRODUCTION TO RHINOCEROS” – COURSE In addition to regular instruction the “Introduction to Rhinoceros” course is run in this term,
for both students and the public.
The course runs through the whole summer term and focuses on the basics of
working in the 3D programme Rhinoceros (www.rhino3d.com) – especially on modeling
and graphic outputs. Together with practical lecturing, consultations also take place every
week. Apart from their tasks, students can work also on documentation of their studio
projects. The course is prepared and run by Miroslav Sven Nevlida, graduate form Faculty
of architecture CTU Prague (fa.cvut.cz). In the past, he studied and worked as a tutor at the
School of Architecture at Texas Tech University (arch.ttu.edu). He participated also as a
programmer during the “dPAV” competition workshop, led by the Balmond studio, at
ARCHIP last June.
In the future, we want to offer additional public courses – in software and also in
fine arts.
GLOBAL AD – SUMMIT IN BERLIN Students of the Global Architecture + Design studios, from all European cities where the
programme runs, met in the German metropolis at the end of March.
Representatives of Prague and Barcelona came to Berlin not only to meet each
other in person, but also for mid-term presentations of their design works in progress.
Students of Global AD in Prague work with the same site as other ARCHIP studios – the
Kampa Museum at the bank of Vltava in the centre of Prague – but their focus is mainly
on possible flood protection. Futuristic designs of “Amphibious Landscapes” are worked
out in 4 small teams. As part of the Berlin tour, there were some other events on the
programme – like “Speculative Practice for a Future City” international symposium in
Deutsches Architektur Zentrum (www.daz.de), co-organized also by CIEE and
Terreform ONE.
Together with Global AD students and tutors, representatives of ARCHIP
management went to Berlin. We look forward to other summits!
“120 HOURS” – SUCCESSFUL ARCHIP STUDENTSIn mid-March, results of the “120 Hours” international competition were announced.
Representatives of our college were awarded an honorable mention.
Donghyun Jason Nam (KR) a Christopher Caleb Hansen (NO) impressed the jury
with their design called “Draped”, a fitting response to the brief – to create a sustainable
icon for the Øya Music Festival in Norway. A visible place for meeting in the park was
created by a pieces of fabric, hanging by ropes from the existing trees, with no permanent
intervention into the environment. The competition, organized by students of AHO in Oslo,
has a very intense format – participants have only 5 days from announcement of the brief
to design and submit their projects. After only several years, “120 Hours” became the
world’s largest event of its kind . Complete information about the competition, where also
other representatives of schools from the Czech Republic succeeded, and all other entries
are at www.120hours.no.
Congratulations to both students – and lots of energy for the next competitions!

APRIL 2014 – ARCHIP PROFILE AT CCA BULLETIN This year’s first Czech Chamber of Architets’ Bulletin was mainly about
education. ARCHIP was presented, together with other schools. The cover even thfeatured our premises. Another admissions round is over. Until 15 May, it is
still possible to apply for the “Bridging Prague 2014” summer workshop.
QUALITY PROJECT – FINAL CONFERENCEThe final 2-day conference of “Quality assurance and evaluation in the tertiary education
system” took place in Prague.
In the conference hall of the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the ASCR (a
building known also for its transparent staircase by architect Jan Šesták) the conference
hosted almost 180 participants, interested in improving of the quality of higher education.
Common morning lecture blocks introduced and summarized particular key activities. In
afternoon workshops, representatives of school that did pilot testing could describe their
specific experience with proposed methods – and discuss them with their colleagues. Also,
specialists from Slovakia, Estonia, Spain, United Kingdom and USA presented their
knowledge about operation of educational systems.
Quality project is now closing after almost 4 years. Participating schools –
including ARCHIP – and also responsible state institutions, will now progressively
introduce its outputs and recommendations into practice.
INTERNSHIPS – OFFER FOR GRADUATESSome of our students, who will soon finish the 3-year Bachelor programme, can get
working experience, supported by the EU.
Internships in the Leonardo da Vinci programme – PML mobility – are offered by
VUSTE-ENVIS company. Stays are organized for up to 8weeks and graduates can choose
an architecture or urbanism studio from the United Kingdom or Spain to work for. If
chosen, their travelling, insurance and accommodation costs will be covered, and also a
part of daily expenses. The project aims at getting other professional and language
knowledge/skills – and to reinforce the starting position of the graduates in the labour
market. The debate with ARCHIP students also featured several architects, who just
returned from a similar internship – or are taking it now in Prague.
The VUSTE-ENVIS company (www.vuste-envis.cz) provides not only internships,
but also many other services. It also collaborates with our college on a Vocational
architecture programme.
MARTIN HORÁK – PUBLIC LECTURE
ARCHIP offered an extraordinary welcome to Martin Horák, a Canadian political scientist
of Czech descent, working in Toronto.
In his lecture, called “Post-communist transformation and local democracy: a
critical perspective”, our guest dealt with operations of politics and self-government in
Prague in the 1990’s. In the transformation period immediately after the revolution, non-
transparent procedures of decision making and public money investing had started,
influenced by individual business interests and by frequent corruption – complicating
planning and development of the metropolis until today. In his presentation, Mr. Horák
introduced a local edition of his successful book of the same name, translated by Michaela
Pixová. Many visitors bought the book at the event.
The lecture was a part of the “Popular school of urbanism” year-round cycle,
organized by PragueWatch citizens’ association (www.praguewatch.cz). Thanks for the
opportunity to participate!

MAY 2014 – VARIOUS PRESENTATIONS OFFor the traditional “Frantisek’s Loves” street fesival, we prepared pictorial quiz
about global architecture. Rector Regina Loukotová presented ARCHIP at an
experimental architecture colloquium in Litomyšl and studio leader Jaroslav
Wertig gave a lecture on his work at “CANactions” festival in Kiev, Ukraine.
ARCHIP
“PLAN LETNÁ” – MEETING AT SCHOOLARCHIP is not only interested in international contacts, but also in local action – and in
May we hosted a public meeting of the “Plan Letná” project.
Inhabitants of our quarter – Letná – can directly express their opinions of the
present status and future development of their neighbourhood at nine different meetings.
Ideas for particular, exactly defined areas, which arise from moderated discussion, are
later processed into a widely distributed magazine and a website. The goal is to start of a
general debate about city life and quality of public space – and also to define clear
objectives for local politicians, non-profit organizations, companies and residents
themselves. The project also includes research and works as a model for better future
development of other cities, including general public.
“Plan Letná” is supported by Anthropicures anthropological research studio
(www.anthropictures.cz). Thanks to Lukáš Hanus, Pavel Borecký and others for involving
us into the project!
“AMPHIBIOUS LANDSCAPESThe final presentation concluded also work of the CIEE Global Architecture + Design –
ONE Lab Prague.
Students of Future Cities Design Studio collaborated in four small teams, also on
projects for the Kampa Museum – but their research and design work was focused mainly
of the river itself and possible measures against flooding. Their speculative projects were
created with the support of computer parametric design and 3D printing. Apart from the
tutors themselves – Adam Vukmanov (RS), Martin Hejl (CZ) a Imro Vaško (SK) – and rector
Regina Loukotová, the presentation featured also CIEE representatives and very special
guests: theoretician Monika Mitášková (SK) and architect Vlado Milunic (CZ), who
collaborated on the world-known Dancing house in Prague, together with Frank O. Gehry.
The event also featured a live video connection with ONE Lab in Berlin and Barcelona.
Congratulations to very first students of ONE Lab Prague on their good results –
we look forward to those interested in CIEE programme at our college in the future.
“ – GLOBAL AD FINALS
“ART KAMPUS” – STUDIO/BACHELOR WORKSAll architectural design studios displayed results of their final works at a regular common
exhibition.
Within the “Art Kampus” brief, students and their tutors focused on a potential
extension of the Kampa Museum (www.museumkampa.cz) – a centre of modern art,
situated in the historical core of Prague, at the bank of the Vltava river near the Charles
Bridge. The academic task solved real problems and demands of this private institution,
related mainly to insufficient capacity for short-term exhibitions and also essential
protection against often repeated floods. Students of all three years designed signficant
extensions of the historical building of Sova s Mills, or separate exhibition pavilions. Some
solutions also modified the landscape and the adjacent park, to improve the quality of
public spaces and connection of the complex to its surroundings.
The public exhibition for the first time featured Bachelor works – and external
reviewers could review them before the defence.

JUNE 2014 – FIRST GRADUATES FROM OUR COLLEGE With the end of 2013/2014 summer term, also first students ever finished our
Bachelor programme – and some of them were already accepted for study at
another schools. ARCHIP will be operating also over holidays, soon we will
welcome participants of “Bridging Prague 2014” workshop. Have a nice summer!
EVGENIY ASSE – DEBATE AT “RESITE” FESTIVAL rdThe 3 annual “reSITE” festival featured the traditional international conference, this year
at a brand new venue – the Forum Karlin (www.forumkarlin.cz), along with several other
festival events.
The accompanying programme also included the Saturday matinee in the
Rudofinum Gallery cafe, prepared by our rector Regina Loukotová. The main guest of the
meeting was architect Evgeniy Asse (RU), a dean of Moscow independent school MARCH
(march.ru), founded in 2012. The seminar was entitled “How to teach architecture?” Also
other people from different related fields took part in a public discussion of architectural
education – representatives of academic and professional sphere, theory and practice:
philosopher Oldřich Ševčík, tutor Ondřej Beneš, architect Jakub Cigler, developer Pavel
Koch and a student/graduate from our college, Martin Žemlička.
ARCHIP was a co-founding partner of “reSITE” festival and conference. Details
are available at resite.cz.
HOUSE FOR IVANA – DESIGN IN COMPETITION FINAL
r new graduate Yana Vasilenko (RU) was chosen as one of 19 finalists in a student
competition organized by Bydlení IQ e-zine, with her design of a row house from the “Kyje
Link” project. th A professional jury in the 5 annual iteration of the competition consisted of
renowned Czech architects – and selected from different projects of family or apartment
houses or urban complexes, developed at different architecture schools in the Czech
Republic. The House for Ivana, designed within the Schindler/Fessler studio last winter
term, was appreciated especially for its spatial organization – with clear horizontal and
vertical arrangement of different functional parts. Also the “inner facade” at the staircase,
made of plywood, and the connection of living rooms to the garden was noted.
Congratulations!
The main prize was given to Šimon Brabec, from Roman Brychta’s studio at AAAD
Prague. You can find all finalists at www.bydleni-iq.cz.

ARCHIP – FINAL EXAMS + CEREMONYAt the beginning of June, final state exams took place, that included also the defence of
Bachelor projects.
First, students had to introduce their design before a 5-member committee,
composed of ARCHIP representatives and external critics – and then they verbally
answered two questions from the fields of architecture and construction. When voting and
evaluating, the committee considered also grades from the tutor and an independent,
external reviewer. Study at ARCHIP was successfully finished by 18 students from
9 countries – and 6 of them were given a diploma with distinction, for extraordinary results
in study, participation in competitions and other activities. The venue of the final ceremony
was the Kampa Museum. It was our pleasure that we could meet our colleagues and the
parents and friends of our students. We will be in contact with our graduates.
Thanks to all for their time spent with us – and we wish them good luck in their
future lives and careers, with many professional and personal achievents!

“MY SPACE” – INTRODUCING THE FIRST YEAR
VENICE BIENNALE – STUDENT EXCURSION
NEWSLETTER8/2014
First year students begin the semester with a series of short projects.
These projects are aimed to develop drawing, model, and teamwork skills, all while
introducing the students to the larger city of Prague, to the community space of the Studio, and to
the local area around the School.
For the “My Space” project, students abstract a portion of the school’s studio space and
propose a new use according to their concept of living, working and relaxing. Beginning from one
neutral volume, the students created a whole range of spatial and social organizations, each with an
individual and unique idea and expression. It’s a great way to introduce the students to the school,
and to demonstrate the diversity of our student body.
Attheendoftheir“MySpace”project,thefirstyearstudentsmadetheirfirstmajor

The models are on display. Please have a look!
This year’s International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale is focused on “Fundamentals”
and on “Absorbing Modernity: 1914-2014”. Curated by Rem Koolhaas, these Biennale themes
provocatively revisit history, cultural identity, and basic architectural form. These investigations
of national memory, modernity and globalization must have been particularly inspiring for our
community of Archip students- given their own multinational backgrounds.
15 students from all three years went on the weekend excursion organized by Jason
Nam, our 2014 alumnus. The two days were spent exploring not only the National Pavilions at the
Giardini and the Arsenale exhibitions, but also the city of Venice itself. The group visited Piazza San
Marco and the Palazzo Ducale, as well as the beautiful Fondazione Querini Stampalia, a modern
masterpiece by Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, and some recent works by Tadao Ando for the Punta
della Dogana Art Museum. At their trip’s end, the students met Marco Gaggio, an architect born and
raised in Venice, who said: “I was impressed by how international your students were and so pleased
to see that young architects still care about my city. Thank you.”
The Global Architecture + Design studio - a part of a CIEE Study Abroad programme for students
from the US - has started its design work in the winter term.
The studio made a 2-day trip to Southern Bohemia, focusing on the Vltava river, its dam
systemsandthegeneralproblemofflooding. This semester, the Global AD studio will be working
on a project for Štvanice Island, a recreational island in the Vltava river in the center of Prague.
ThecapacityofprotectingPragueandothercitiesdowntheriverfromfloodingislimited,and

During their trip, students learned about the history and construction of the dam systems,
about how the whole Vltava river is regulated, and also about the rules for controlling the water
levelincaseoffloods.Theywereabletoexplorethetechnologyandtheoperationofthisregional
infrastructure up close and from inside, and they will apply what they’ve learned towards this
semester’s design project.
NOVEMBER 2014 - ADMISSIONS FOR 2015/2016We are accepting online applications for the next academic year. The deadline of the 1st round is February 2, 2015. And we invite you for a visit to our annual Open House, December 2nd.
“BUBNY FIELDS” – CONCEPT PRESENTATION
BERLIN – STUDY TRIP AND SYMPOSIUM
“PŘÍSTAV 18600” – ARCHIP GETS INVOLVED
NEWSLETTER9/2014
Students went to Berlin for a two day visit, to explore the city and to take part in the Speculative
Practice II, Lecture Series with the Architecture Design Innovation Program (ADIP) at the Technical
University of Berlin.
The Speculative Practice series was developed by Terreform ONE and Global AD. This
particular symposium investigated the Post-Carbon City: A hyper-networked techno-ecological
habitat of logistics, data and resource flows. Among the questions posed were: How will the Post-
Carbon City harmonize anthropogenic and ecological systems that were previously in conflict the
past century? Who will make the Post-Carbon City and what will life be like? Students from ARCHIP
shared and debated the systems, technologies, morphologies, and life of the Post-Carbon City,
and engaged in the questions and debate moderated by Professor Jorg Stollmann, Chair for Urban
Design and Architecture.
Students also visited the East Side Gallery and explored Museumsinsel, Tiergarten and
Mitte, among many other places.
On a cool but sunny day this November, students of all three years, faculty and administration met
with the organizers of Přístav 18600 at the Vltava riverbank in Karlín. It was a day of both physical
and mental work, as students took part in cleaning, as well as documenting and sketching the site -
preparing themselves for a competiton to renovate this undervalued piece of land into a public park.
The 12,000m2 brownfield, managed by Přístav 18600 and formerly the train station Karlín-
přístav, is to be transformed into a natural and creative, wild yet organized space to enjoy music,
performance, nature and community. Archip students are taking part in a competition for the best
concept for a low-footprint, adaptive re-use of this piece of land. Their proposals will be presented
December 5, with construction planned for next summer.
Research accumulated on the site included interviews with locals passing by, asking
them about their impressions of and desires for the place. Students took turns cleaning leaves and
shrubery and digging foundations for tables and benches, while enjoying warm soup and hot wine.
You can find more information about the project at http://www.18600.cz/
Second and third year students presented the concept phase of their project “Bubny Fields”. This is
an urban landscape project focused on the space between buildings and the human scale within an
urban context.
Each studio is developing an area approximately 40,000 m2 which covers multiple city
blocks, streets, spaces and landmarks at a range of scales. The project is based on the proposed
masterplan for Prague-Bubny by CMC Architects, and is located on a vast brownfield within the
heart of Prague 7. The partially abandoned, historical railway landscape is to become an integrated
part within the urban fabric of the city. Students supplemented their work with site visits,
presentations from the developer, and analytical investigations into urban spaces and typologies.
Unlike conventional urban design projects, it is the space between which is explored as
the defining element of the city. Students proposed a vast range of concepts about the possibilities
of urban space, their architectural qualities, and the relationships and connections between these
spaces and their surroundings. They will develop their projects through to the end of the semester.
DECEMBER 2014 - MARKING ANOTHER YEAR This year has marked our first class of graduates, and the second year of the GAD program. Archip has also formally submitted an application to the Ministry of Education for its accreditation as a five-year program. We will keep you informed!
PŘÍSTAV 18600 COMPETITION - WINNER SELECTED
CHRISTMAS PARTY – INTERNATIONAL DINNER
GLObAL AD - fINAL PRESENTATION
NEWSLETTER10/2014
The annual christmas party at ARCHIP took place this year just before the beginning of the two-
week long winter break. This year’s party theme was Happy Architects. And as expected, it was a
celebration.
Students, faculty and graduates met to enjoy food, music, games and conversation. The
student-organised initiative transformed the large studio space into a great dining hall, equipped with
a long banquet table running down the centre. As per tradition, students were to cook and share
some traditional foods from their own countries. An added benefit of having such an international
community of students at ARCHIP, is the wide-ranging field of foods, colours and tastes that get
displayed across the dining table. Among others, there were traditional recipes from Iran, Slovakia,
Norway, Hong Kong, Germany, France, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Lebanon. It was an international
feast! And after the dinner, gifts were exchanged.
Thanks to all who collaborated with us over this year. We wish everyone a happy and
successful 2015!
The Global AD students presented the results of their semestral project, situated on štvanice
Island, to tutors and the programme co-founder Maria Ailova from New York City.
The studio is a mixture of visiting American students and a small group of regular
ARCHIP students, and it completes its term a few weeks before the other studios. What makes
the AD studio distinct from the other studios at the school, besides its research and design
program, is the form of the final project presentations.
Students presented their work as a multimedia presentation, with projections, including
videos, virtual walkthroughs and mappings on printed models. All the proposals demonstrated
topological, parametric and animation-based 3D modeling, data visualization, environmental
simulations and fabrication - towards the generation of experimental new connective urban
tissues that navigate the edge between land and water.
Thank you, guys, great job!
Nine finalists were chosen to advance to the second round. After each made a presentation to the
jury, the winners were announced. Proposals ranged in scope from overall solutions, to localised
“accents”. While the aim of the competition was for Přístav 18600 to select an overall concept for
their renovation, it was decided by the jury that some of the ideas from the smaller proposals could
also be incorporated into the master plan. Some of the smaller proposals include hanging bicycles
on trees, the sculptural and functional re-use of wood clearings from the site, and the construction of
small gardening areas and furniture.
The overall winners were 3rd year students Sondre Hermundstad and Feliks Isaksen. Their
proposal enhances the site’s existing positive qualities through new landscaping features. Among
the most compelling features are a year-round field of indigenous plants that change colours and
qualities with every season, and a scattering of site-specific fire pits with built-in seating.
Collaboration will continue between Přístav 18600, ARCHIP, and the winning students, in
the Spring 2015 as the next steps are taken towards the realisation of the project.
