Significant Jump in Paraguayan Exports

Source: Paraguay's Ministry of Industry and Trade (Ministerio de Industria y Comercio)

Panama and the Dominican Republic signed an agreement for the negotiation to incorporate new products and improve the preferential treatment of the products included in the current agreement with the sole objective of strengthening their economic and trade relations. The agreement was signed by Ministers, Augusto Arosemena from Panama and Miguel Vargas from Dominican Republic. The negotiations were possible through the efforts of both Presidents, when in 2015 they communicated their desire to revisit the issue and concluding, in the short term, the negotiations to expand the Partial Scope Agreement, since it's fundamental to strengthen of economic ties between the two nations. The current agreement between Panama and Dominican Republic has a limited coverage of about 200 products. Through the expansion of the agreement, there will be opportunities to explore the inclusion of agricultural, agro-processed, seafood and industrial products without taking away the protection of sensible products.

The first four months of the year show that export companies and maquiladoras represent an important sector for Paraguay's economy. In April 2017, products of different types were exported to different markets around the world for a total of 32.4 million dollars, a 23% increase from the 26.4 million dollars registered in the same month last year. Furthermore, the increase on year over year basis is even bigger taking into account the period of the first four months of each year. According to an analysis, exports have already reached 124.6 million dollars, a 30% increase from last year.
