Lilacs & Apple Blossoms!Lilacs & Apple Blossoms!Lilacs & Apple Blossoms!Lilacs & Apple Blossoms! Spring is in the air! Summer is right around the corner. It’s a great time of year. The

lilacs and apple blossoms are in bloom. Everything looks so new and beautiful. I am convinced that we who live through Minnesota winters have an even greater appreciation of spring than any-one else on earth!

All that has been buried under the snow, dormant and seemingly dead, has suddenly sprung to life full of splendor and glory. We are reminded that our Lord Jesus lay buried in a grave...and Sunday morning He was raised to life. All of creation has joined in the chorus pro-claiming the resurrection of our Lord. At the dawning of springtime each new bud and each new blossom boldly declares that life has won the victory over death!

This is the Good News! Listen to the Apostle Paul as he encourages the Christian Church in Rome:

“Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ

Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been

buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was

raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we to might

walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the

likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His

resurrection...” (Romans 6:3-5)

For all who have put their faith in Jesus some wonderful things have already happened. First, all of our sins have been forgiven...those in our past as well as those we commit today and those we have not yet

committed! Second, we have received eternal life. Note that I did not say “we will receive” but rather I said “we have received”. Eternal life is not something that will be ours someday. Eternal life begins on the day you believe and receive Jesus as your Savior. By the power of Jesus’ resur-rection our lives are made new. Paul says “we are a new creation” (2Corinthians 5:17) and now everything is new and different.

Like the lilacs and the apple blossoms at the dawning of the springtime our lives ought to be a bold proclamation to the whole world that Jesus is living in us and we are no longer dead. We have been made alive in Him. May the fresh, new life that is appearing all around you remind you that your own life has been made fresh and new through Jesus. Be encouraged to claim the victory that is ours and to walk everyday in the newness of life!

We give thanks to God and to each one of you for your faithfulness in giving. Please continue to pray that God will provide for our church’s financial needs. (You’ll notice that we are run-ning behind our budgeted needs.) Each of us has the privilege of prayerfully considering our pattern of giving and seek-ing God’s direction so that we are offering to Him what He desires.

As we pray intercessory prayers for the people on the list it is imperative that we get updates. This allows us to pray prayers of thanksgiving for answered prayers. Please update us monthly or we will assume they have been answered as we update the list.

George Bernard Shaw, an Irish playwright, said, "The problem with communication...is the illusion that it has been accomplished." Boy, isn't that the truth? Someone tells someone something and then they assume that someone else will tell the appropriate people and when it's all said and done, no one was told anything and the information remains stagnant. This is exactly what we don't want to happen. We want our information out there not only to our congregation but to the public as well. There are many ways to do that. To keep our congregation up to date on the goings on of the church, we have our weekly church bulletins and monthly newsletters. Peggy also does a good job of utilizing our window space by "advertising" up-coming events and sign up sheets, etc. We've also started a CCC Facebook page for those of you on Facebook. Sign up and become a fan of our church and you can get updates that way as well. And because we want our church to grow, we also notify the public about the goings on at Christ Commu-nity Church. We submit press releases to the Brainerd Dispatch, the Pequot Lakes Echo, the Pine River Journal, News Hopper, KTIG, The Pulse and even secular radio. But, we can't do any of the above "advertising" and self-promotion if we don't know what's going on. It's extremely important to communicate with each other and that means letting people know of the event initially as well as any changes to the event. It's also imperative to meet all of the specific deadlines so the more notice we give our media outlets, the better response time we'll have on our congregation and the public attending our events. It's not good enough to come to church on Sunday morning and find out there's an event planned for later that afternoon. We need to be thinking ahead. Which leads me to something new we've come up with. There is now a salmon-colored press release form available in the church foyer for anyone wanting to announce an upcoming event. It will work for in-house announcements such as someone's birthday party or anniversary open house that goes in the bulletin or newsletter as well as bigger events such as the women's Bible study beginning June 4. So, grab some forms and start promoting your event. You can mail it to Peggy, place it on her desk for her to see or put it in the black box outside of the office door. Then, it wouldn't be a bad idea to follow up with her just to make sure she got it. Thanks for listening. Now let's start communicating!
