A Publication of the Hendersonville Elks Lodge 1616, Hendersonville, NC December, 2016
Merry Christmas Elks Lodge #1616 Ho Ho Ho! The Christmas season is upon us again! I love getting them big ole presents
every year, all the cool lights, the pine needle ropes draped on the stuff, and the beautiful
tree in the lobby (that the prettiest girl in the world decorates). My favorite part of
Christmas has to be all the generosity of people during the holidays. People step up for
other people at Christmas time. As an Elk you do your part too. Just by paying your dues you are helping
support the efforts of our Christmas charities program. Together we help 130 families in need, our neighbors,
have a wonderful Christmas too. Everyone’s generosity throughout the year also makes it possible to continue
the amazing effort, year after year. All the fun stuff we did this spring, summer, and fall, raised a good portion
of the incredible amount of funds needed to achieve our goals. Continue to support the effort and be proud to
do your part in giving back. Charity is the crowning virtue of an Elk.
The Veterans dinner on the 12th was awesome!! The lounge was packed with proud Veterans and Elks. Thank
you Veterans, and thank you to all who showed up to support them too. They are our real heroes that laid it on
the line so we could be free. YES! This is what it’s all about!
The Christmas Kickoff party was over the top! The band almost rocked the lodge off the hill. The food was the
best I’ve ever had at the lodge, hands down! Hats off to all the kitchen staff and volunteers. That was incredi-
ble!!! One of the best times I’ve had. This event alone raised almost $3000 in support of the charitable activi-
ties of your lodge. Way to go everyone!
Please join us at the Memorial Service on December 4th to pay tribute to the Elks we’ve lost over the year. The
ceremony will take place downstairs in the meeting room at 1:00 pm.
Don’t forget the Hoop Shoot on Saturday the 10th. This free throw competition is designed to promote sports-
manship in America’s youth. Boys and girls ages 8-13 are invited to participate. Registration is at 9:30am at
Hendersonville Middle School Gym, the competition will begin at 10am.
We are also collecting the essays for the Americanism Essay Contest. The topic for this year’s essay is “Why
Is It Important To Vote?”. I’m excited to read some of the entries this year. The opinions of 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th
graders are very intriguing. I was impressed to see all the young people in America so involved with this elec-
tion. Even the ones that aren’t old enough to vote are very opinionated, and have their own views and passion
for the country. That is refreshing.
Keep in mind we will not have a meeting on the 20th of December. The regular meeting schedule will resume
on January 2nd. Our efforts will be focused on the Christmas Charity program. Check your hoof prints for dates
and times to get involved in our largest charitable contribution. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas,
and I’ll see you at the lodge. Merry Christmas everyone!
Your ER, Shane Cook
