Welcome the newest staff members to our Marklund Team!Crystal Kostelaz - IHR Staff Nurse, MHCI have five siblings. I am from Rockford. I have worked at Allendale Association and the Children’s Center for Neuro Developmental Disabilities. I enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, doing puzzles and gardening with my grandmother.

Colette Beniamin - PSP, MWCI have two younger brothers. I am from Syria. I have worked at Tower Hill Healthcare Center. I enjoy reading, painting, and playing soccer.

Anna Mersereau - Social Worker, MDSI am married and have two cats. I grew up in Bartlett and I now live in Schaumburg. I have worked at Harbor Light Hospice and Fresenius Kidney Care. My hobbies include reading, traveling and crafts.

Pauline Plaza - Life Skills Teacher, MDSI have one son and two dogs. I currently reside in Streamwood but I was born in the Philippines. I have worked as a daycare teacher for KinderCare Learning Center. I enjoy reading, drawing and painting. I also enjoy spending time with my son singing, dancing and working on puzzles together.

Audrey Brinda – PSP, MSHI am from Montgomery. I have worked at Sunrise Senior Living and Special Stars Inc. My hobbies include dancing, exercising, cooking and writing.

Michael Felicetti – Staff Nurse, MWCI am married and I am from Chicago. I have worked at Resurrection Hospital and I enjoy drawing.

Ariana Paloalto – PSP, MDHI am very close to my family, I have a brother and a sister. I was born and raised in Aurora but I currently live in Montgomery. I previously worked as a sales associate. I like sleeping, making bracelets, cooking and hanging out with friends.

Aadan Ehsan – PSP, MWCMy family lives in Pakistan. I have worked in a child daycare center. I like to travel, sing, dance and listen to music. I also paint most of my free time.

Our Vision is: A happy, safe, purpose-filled life for every individual with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We cannot fulfill this vision alone and will enlist the support of partners with a similar vision.

This is how we behave as individuals and as an organization. As I look over the You Caught My Eye honorees over the past nine years, these are the predominate traits that I have seen. When practiced, they exemplify the best in all of us.

To avoid this, employees should not post any personal photos of or Protected Health Information about Residents, Students or Community Clients to their social media.

So, how can you post about Marklund on your own social media without a potential violation?

You can share, like or retweet posts from Marklund’s official social media sites! This is a great and safe way to be able to share with your friends and family the impact that you make by working at Marklund.

Marklund Day School-Geneva Construction UpdateThe Before - July 9 Groundbreaking

Construction on the new Marklund Day School-Geneva building has been progressing well. Please take caution when driving around the construction site as the center entrance/exit road to the

campus has been reduced to one lane, and the north road remains closed at this time.

GLEN’S Kitchen

• 4 (3 to 4-ounce) hamburger patties, about 1/2-inch thick• Salt and pepper• Caramelized Onions (see below for recipie)• 8 ounces grated, smoked gouda cheese• Barbecue Sauce (see below for recipie)• 8 slices Texas toast or thick-cut white bread, toasted

Preheat the griddle. Preheat the fryer. Season the patties with salt and pepper. Place the patties on the hot griddle and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, flip the patties over and continue to cook. Add the onions to the griddle and saute for 2 to 3 minutes or until warmed through. Season the onions with salt and pepper.

During the last couple of minutes of cooking, place 2 ounces of cheese on each patty. After the cheese has melted remove the patties from the griddle and set aside. Top each patty with the sauteed onions. Oil both sides of the bread and place on the griddle. Cook the bread for 1 to 2 minutes on each side or until toasted. Remove the bread from the griddle and place the patties on one piece of the toast, add a little barbecue sauceto each and top with remaining piece of toast .

Texas style Patty Melts

• 1 cup ketchup• 6 tablespoons apple cider vinegar• 1/4 cup cola beverage• 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce• 1 tablespoon cane syrup• 1 teaspoon chopped garlic• 1/2 teaspoon finely grated onion• 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger• 3 tablespoons dark brown sugar• 1/4 teaspoon salt

Place ketchup, vinegar, cola, Worcestershire, cane syrup, garlic, onion, ginger, dark brown sugar, and salt in a blender or food processor and blend on low until mixture is combined. Set aside to use with short ribs. Sauce may be made up to 1 week in advance and refrigerated in an airtight, non-reactive container.

Barbecue Sauce

• 4 tablespoons unsalted butter• 1 pound yellow onions, peeled and

very thinly sliced (4 cups)

Melt the butter in a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the onions and lower the heat to medium-low. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and caramelized, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
