14th August, 2017 Issue 13

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

How lovely it is to be at Smithfield P.S! Many thanks to Jodi Harris who relieved while I was away, and Bita Christos, both whom provided excellent leadership. It is a very reassuring feeling to know that we have excellent senior leadership in our school. 3 weeks sped by and after one week back at school I feel blessed to be home. I have a renewed respect and reverence for our public education system where all children are welcome and entitled to a quality beginning in life.

Pioneers’ Project The community engagement project led by Jacqui Ranera-Griffin and Jodi Harris is gaining recognition and celebration as the Smithfield model is replicated in other schools. We join with colleagues across N.S.W. next week to present our initial fundings and share expertise at the Fair Australian conference. Jodi and I have been invited to speak to the board members of the Pioneers’ project on 20th September. We are honoured and just a little awed.

Job Support On Monday, with a representative from Job Support, I will discuss the possibility of employing a person with a disability to assist with clerical tasks. I will keep you informed as we progress.

Kindergarten and Pre School Orientation Please be aware (I am sure you are!) that this term is moving at a fast pace and soon we will be looking at Term 4. We are organising our orientations now and will shortly advise parents about times/dates for orientation. Many thanks to those parents who have enrolled their child/children. We will be communicating with you before the end of term. Please inform friends and neighbours who may not have a child in our school, as yet.

Parents & Citizens Associations (P&C) It is with great regret that we farewell Julia Enders as our president. Julia has provided innovative and committed leadership this year and has made a major contribution to the direction of the ‘new team’. As we know, Julia is a very competent and busy business woman. She has agreed to remain as the P&C member responsible for grants. Already we have submitted 2! We greatly appreciate her ongoing commitment.. 2017 financial members of the P&C are welcome to join us at the next general meeting on 4th September, when we will elect an interim president for 2017. Others are most welcome but may not vote.
