School Spirit Awards Continued:

Here are the winners for Term Two:

The winner from Prep:

Taskeen (Prep O)

Taskeen has been nominated for the School Spirit Award this second term due to her happy, caring and positive attitude towards all learning tasks. Taskeen always comes to school wanting to learn and do her very best. She follows the 4 Cs and helps her friends to do the same. Taskeen will ask questions if she is unsure and seeks her teacher's advice to help her produce her best work. Well done Taskeen, you are a Su-per Star!

The winner from Year 1 & 2:

Emily (2S)

Emily is an all-rounder who is willing to take on new challenges at Dandenong North Primary School. She likes to expand her vocabulary by reading difficult text. She uses this newfound knowledge and incorporates it in her writing. Emily has the same interest in tackling ever larger challenges in maths. It’s wonderful to have your en-thusiasm for learning in Grade 2S.

The winner from Year 3 & 4:

Jayden (3H)

Jayden quietly goes about his business in the classroom, he is attentive, respectful and loves learning. I am continually impressed with the standard of Jayden’s work, the way he listens and his complete fascination in every topic we cover. Jayden takes in each instruction and is beyond his years when it comes to the care he puts into his work. I photocopied a writing piece of Jayden’s and handed it out to each student in 3H, just to show the class that Grade 3 were capable of such an inspiring piece of writing. He is a pleasure to have in the classroom and I look forward to more work completed by Jayden throughout the next two terms in Grade 3.

The winner from Year 5 & 6:

Hassan (5H)

Hassan has shown himself to be a student who is striving to be the best student that he can be. Hassan has made some phenomenal progress with his acquisition of the English language and is often asking how he can improve. No matter the task – Has-san works to the best of his ability and has also taken on the responsibility of assist-ing others. Hassan has also been a wonderful representative at Gala Days and Cross country events – highlighting his belief that every element of school life should be embraced. I am proud to nominate Hassan for School Spirit in Term Two 2017.

Southern Metropolitan Region Cross Country

Past Student Visits

On Monday 19th June there were twenty one chil-dren from Dandenong North represented the Dan-denong Division in the Region Cross Country.

The venue was Ballam Park in Frankston which proved to be a testing course with several hills that were difficult for some to overcome.

As in the District Cross Country races, the 10 year old age group ran 2km and the 11, 12/13 age groups ran over a 3km course.

In each race, there was an average of 100 competi-tors!

This event is a huge step up in competition as many of the runners have private running coaches!

The top 12 place getters progress to the State Cross Country Final on the 20th July at Bundoora Park in Bundoora.

Mohyad (6C) finished in 3rd place in the 11 year

boys race and his brother Hassan (4N) came 4th in the 10 year boys race. Both of these boys will now pro-gress to the State Cross Country Fi-nals - a wonderful result for these sib-lings!

Jake (6H) participated in the 2016 Region Cross Country and placed 54th. This year, he showed great improvement to place 24th!

Our 10 year old competitors, Natalin (5F), Sehrish (4K), Alex (4K), Haris(4K), Reza (4C), Noah (4C) and Zulfiqar (5F) have now experi-enced the standard required and realise the future efforts that it requires to compete at this elite

level.

All of the participants on this day, should be proud of their efforts as they represented Dandenong North fantastically!

Again, it takes the collaboration of Mrs Conway in the junior grades and Mr Malone in the middle and senior grades - to make our children cross country ready!

On Monday a past Dandenong North student, Billy Chen, returned to our school to speak with the Year 5 and 6 students.

Billy credited his excellent results at Secondary School, with the fabulous educational foundations provided to him by Dandenong North.

Billy has maintained his exuberant per-sonality throughout his secondary school years and is now studying engi-neering at University.

Billy provided our students with some good pieces of advice regard-ing trying something new, making friends and keeping in contact with the old ones from primary school.

It was wonderful to hear the passion for school that Billy has and we thank him for taking the time to speak with our students.

Miss MacMichael is always thinking of ways to stimu-late the creativity of the students in her Art classes and this half year has been no exception.

In the Year 1 and 2 grades, she has provided modelling clay for the children to create dinosaurs and Jurassic landscapes.

In the Years 3 and 4 classes students have been making some wonderful multicultural people that highlight their creativity and use of different material.

The Year 5 and 6 children have been complet-ing an Art study of Edvard Munch’s piece enti-tled “The Scream”. Their attempts at replicat-ing this famous painting have been fantastic and have highlighted the drawing skills that our students have.

These are only a few samples of the excellent work that our children undertake during Art classes. Thanks Ms Mac for making Art educa-tional and fun!
