Although this topic could fill a book I II stop here Any manufacturer that ha comshyplete certification for the above 5 standards probably has it for the other standards that apply to our industry I have also found that there are manufacturers who only modify on used vans (after first reta il sale) so that they can use a loophole in the law and thus technically not have to crash test As long as we as an industry support and promote these kinds of manufacturers then we are destined to be labeled and measured by the lowest quality among us

STOP THE INSANITY

Last month in the Buzz I reported that Insurance company lobbyists have stood in front of bills in the past to stop legislashytion being passed that would insure that any vehicle that was totaled either in a hurricane flood or in an accident was idenshytified in a national data base The reason

they are so opposed is obvious they can sell these vehicles that have been totaled to resellers who know they can wash the title and in turn sell the vehicle as if it were not totaled These title washing comshypanies will pay more money for totaled vehicles would because they know they are going to sell it as if it were a clean title The NADA (National Auto Dealers Association) reported that last year alone State Farm admitted to reselling at least 30000 totaled vehicles without salvage titles to car buyers who were unaware that there vehicles had previously suffered this severe damage Once again Congress is getting involved in the act as Senator Trent Lott a Republican from Mississhysippi has introduced a bill that would require total disclosure of the loss data by insurance companies through electronic means which would then be available to any future car buyers It seems to me that this law would not only save people from getting duped by buying defective cars but also offer another degree of safety to the motoring public It only makes sense that congress would pass it and not listen to the lobbyists for the already mega rich insurance companies Lets keep an eye out to see if this passes or if once again big money blocks a much needed and very sensible law
