FAMILY CORNER Sunday Nursery Although parents are encouraged to worship with their young children, there are times when you may want to use the Nursery for children under 5 years old.

It is located in Room 105 near the church office. Ask an usher for directions. Please be sure to use the sign-in. CHILDREN ARE MEMBERS

We are glad you are worshiping as a family today. We know God will bless this experience to enrich your family life. Here is another tip from parents who’ve been there. Babies can also participate in singing! Today keep time with the music by tapping your child’s feet or clapping her hands. Be sure to smile at her while you do so. Worship is the work of God’s people, but it is a happy thing we do!

“Every time you meet another human being you have the opportunity. It’s a chance at holiness. For you will do one of two things. Either you will build him up or you will tear him down. There are no useless, minor meetings. There are no dead-end jobs. There are no pointless lives. Swallow your sorrows; forget your grievances and all the hurt

your poor life has sustained. Turn your face truly to the human before you and let her, for one pure moment, shine. Think her important, and then she will suspect that she is fashioned of God.” Walt Wangerin, pastor and author – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • www.lutheransforlife.org

A Days for Girls Workshop will be held on Saturday, September 30th beginning at 10am in Luther Hall. We will be assembling 100 DfG kits, preparing them for shipment to Dr. Kristen Schmaltz in Guinea, West Africa. I do not anticipate this task taking longer than 2 hours to complete – depending on how many come to the workshop – “Many hands make light work”. If you like, you can bring a brown bag lunch, just in case we go past noon.

Days for Girls International has provided sustainable feminine hygiene products to women and girls in over 110 countries! If you have never attended a DfG Workshop, but are curious, come on out on the 30th. I promise you will be impressed by the ministry and enjoy some wonderful fellowship! Please RSVP to Karen Rinaldi at [email protected] or 908-688-3360. I look forward to hearing from you and hope you can attend! – submitted by Karen Rinaldi

What do Lutheran Christians believe? Pastor Gary Timm will be leading a Christian discipleship class called “Living Faith at Redeemer” beginning Wednesday, September 27th at 7:30 PM.

This class is for anyone desiring to grow deeper in relationship with our God, one another, and with God’s Word. We will look at the Bible from a historical stand point, beginning in Genesis, and discover how God’s disciples wrestled with their faith in the one true God, creator of the universe, and how we, the members of Redeemer today, are a continuation of God’s disciples in His Bible. If you or someone you know is interested in joining in membership at Redeemer Lutheran Church and School, this class is your entry point. Each class will be 1.5 hours in length and will meet weekly on Tuesdays from end of June through mid-August. Please contact the office if child care is needed. For more information please contact the church office at (908) 232-1517.

OUTREACH PROJECT OF LAMB A small group of women have been visiting Cranford Park and Rehab, sharing the news of Jesus and singing favorite songs with the residents. We meet the first and third Tuesday at 3:00 PM. We would like to expand the group so the same people do not go every time. Please consider sharing your love of Jesus with these residents who really enjoy the visits. Men, women, young and not so young; all you need to give is about one hour for each visit. Please join us.

If you have any questions please see Dorothy Anzelone.

Altar Guild Flower Committee-

If it weren’t for donations from the congregation the Altar would be bare. There are still weeks that you could sign up for placement of flowers on the Altar. Sometimes there is a week that we do not receive donations. When this occurs the Altar Guild draws on past generous donations to cover the cost of the flowers. However, we can not cover the flower costs on a regular basis. Won’t you consider placing flowers on the altar on Sunday during the year to celebrate a special occasion or in memory of a loved one?

September 24

To donate to the Altar Flowers all you need do is: 1. Check the sign-up list in the Narthex for an available week (there can be more than one

family a week). 2. Fill out an envelope and index card with the necessary information (there is a sign in Narthex

explaining the procedure). 3. Place the index card and $30.00 donation for the flowers in the envelope (checks made out

to Altar Guild). 4. Return the envelope to the index box or Kathy Calello’s church mailbox. DO NOT PLACE IN

OFFERING PLATE. 5. If you are reserving a Sunday several months in advance you can just fill out an index card

with the information and follow up with a donation closer to the date you are reserving. After 11:00 service you can either take the flowers or leave them to be distributed to a shut-in or some one we have been praying for. Submitted by Kathy Calello

MISSION OF THE HEART SEPTEMBER 2017

MISSION STATEMENT: Through the power of the Holy Spirit, and in response to God's love as revealed in the Gospel, the mission of Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey is to serve those in NJ who hurt, who are in need, or who have limited choices. Serving those in need, who hurt and have limited choices has been the ministry of LSMNJ for years and each year brings new challenges and new opportunities. During 2016 they purchased a closed Catholic retirement home for nuns (Saint Anne Villa) and have transformed this location into an assisted living environment and nursing care campus. They are instrumental, in arranging adoptions within NJ and successfully created 11 new family units through adoption. Each child adopted thru LSMNJ is sent to a loving home with hats and gloves knitted by volunteers working with them as a constant reminder that we are all "knitted" into 1 community. Volunteers visit a day shelter in Camden and provide free haircuts and hair styling to enhance the resident's sense of self-worth. There are legal services working to help immigrants with paperwork to assist them on the road to citizenship. More than 100 persons are fed daily. Their volunteer base comprises over 3,000 volunteers providing more than 50,000 hours of service annually to keep this programs flourishing. While federal programs, such as Medicaid fund some of these efforts and grants and private contributions add to their financial pool, the need is always there and with additional funding LSMNJ can do even more in years ahead. Please be generous in your giving for this ministry and look for materials on their outreach on the tabletop in the Narthex. For more information on their work, visit their WEB site at www.lsmnj.org or call their staff at 609-699-4115. God bless your giving. "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." Luke 6:38 Carole Baldasty for the Missions Team
