Eunice swimmers can enjoy the city’s pool beginning today, while Hobbsans must wait until Saturday. Lovington residents can begin swimming in the public pool Tuesday. No alcohol or tobacco products are allowed at any public pool. Hobbs Heizer, Humble and Del Norte pools open Saturday at noon. Del Norte and Heizer are open seven days a week from 12-6 p.m., while Humble is open seven days a week from 12-5 p.m. The entry fee for Del Norte is $2, and $1 for Heizer and Humble. City aquatics director Brenda Taylor said Heizer and Humble pools are still available for after-hours pri- vate party rentals. Del Norte, though, is booked for the summer. Taylor said all swimmers need to wear appropriate attire. “Everyone who intends to get in the water needs to wear a bathing suit,” Hobbs Downtown Lions Club recently participated in a Saturday cleanup in Hobbs. The Hobbs youth re- cently en- tered the Hey Moz- art! compe- tition. The New Mex- ico nonprof- it competi- tion takes musical melody submissions from New Mexico Youth aged 12 and under each year for an annual competition. From a pool of 222 submis- sions Heister’s song “Look at Me Now” was chosen as one of 16 winners because of the melody she created in her head for the song. BETH HAHN NEWS-SUN Beginning next month, Hobbs Police Department and Lea County Sheriff ’s Department emergency dispatchers will be working in the same room. Officials are planning to combine the two dispatching centers June 26. The move marks the beginning of the Lea County Communications Authority, which will eventually operate the consolidated Emergency Operations Center cur- rently under construction on College Lane near Lovington Highway. Lea County and the City of Hobbs are partnering to build a consolidated Emergency Operations Center to house the dispatchers in northwest Hobbs. Construction on the $4.5 million operations center should be com- pleted early next year. County commissioners approved spending about $33,000 to move equipment from Lovington to the Hobbs Police Department dispatch center at 301 N. Dalmont.
