A lot of aromas ll a hospital, but the odor of a broken sewer pipe is one that does not belong there. This Newport Beach hospital’s employees discovered that a constant, foul stench was due to a leaking sanitary pipe line that was so corroded, it ate away part of the oor. Nu Flow employees were able to line the pipes quickly and without digging. Project: Line an underground sewer pipe in the hospital’s basement without disrupting the hospital’s normal operations. Customer and Site: A prestigious hospital located in Newport Beach, California. This multi-story hospital is not-for-prot and was established in the early 1950s. It has around 500 beds and more than 4,000 employees. System: 4" cast iron sewer pipes, located underneath the mechanical rooms’ oors in the hospital’s basement, are more than 50 years old. Situation: The aged sanitary pipes were so corroded that cracks and holes formed, which released foul sewer gases into the mechanical rooms and hallways. A noticea ble hole appeared in a mechanical room’s oor as a result of the pipe system’s severe corrosion. This led employees to further investigate the failing pipes and look for a x. Solution: Nu Flow worked at night to clean and line the failing sewer pipe. Our Pull-in-Place structural liner was installed using existing access points, so the concrete oor was preserved. The 3" by 6" exposed pipe in the concrete oor was also lined. This innovative, seamless liner covers all breaks in the pipe and prevents corrosion build- up and holes from forming in the future. The sewer gasses have since disappeared, thanks to Nu Flow’s long-term solution. Nu Flow’s structural liner was installed in this hospital’s underground sewer pipes to cover all holes and prevent future, foul-smelling failures.
