Newington Green News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week the Government indicated that it expects all children to be back in school in September if

the 'science allows'. We have yet to see the Government guidance on this, but it is due out this

week. We will write to you with more information next week.

In both schools, due to the current guidance, we are unable to open more widely to other year

groups. This is because we may have to open a further keyworker pod in each school, and do not

have enough staff beyond that. If your child is in 2 Year Olds, Nursery, Y2, Y3, Y4 or Y5, we believe it

is highly unlikely they will be able to return to school before September 2020.

The Government also announced a nationwide catch up programme for some pupils. The guidance on this was released this week, and again we will be letting you know more about this when we can.

Thank you for all your messages of support and encouragement. It has meant a great deal to the staff.

Abi, Executive Head.

Staffing update

Rosa Treveni, Oak Tree teacher, will be starting her maternity leave next week. We wish Rosa all the best as she starts her parenting journey and hope you get some rest before the little ones arrive!

We are sad to inform you that Alice Norfield, Cover Supervisor, has decided to leave Newington

Green at the end of term. Alice is moving on to become a TEFL teacher. We would like to thank Alice

for her hard work and commitment during the time she worked at Newington Green. We wish her all the best for the future!

Reports

Parents will be receiving their child's end of year report in the post next week. Due to the current

situation and school closure, attainment and progress have been measured from July 2019 until

March 2020. As we will not be able to hold Parents Evening onsite this year, teachers will be in touch by phone on 6th and 7th July to discuss your child's report with you.

Online Safety: Top Tips for Children

Being online can be exciting and fun – but some things online can leave you feeling upset, worried or

confused. If you feel any of these things when you ’re online, it’s important to know where to get help.

* Always ask a grown up before you use the internet. They can help you find the best thing to do.

* Don’t tell strangers where you live, your phone number or where you go to school. Only your friends and family need to know that.

* Don’t send pictures to people you don’t know. You don’t want strangers looking at photos of you,

your friends or your family.

* Tell a grown up if you feel scared or unhappy about anything.

Help and Advice

If you find something on the internet that doesn’t seem right, or someone has made you sad or

scared, you should tell your mum, dad or the person who looks after you at home or a teacher at school.

Talk to someone!

It’s great to talk and it can really help you feel better about things. There’s lots of people you can talk to, such as friends, family members and teachers. Checkout Childnet for Primary Children

1. Make a report

If something has happened on a service like a game or social media site, you might be able to make a

report. You can often report other users if they’ve done something to upset or worry you. You can also report content - such as hurtful comments or upsetting photos that you don ’t want to see.

2. Call Childline

If you’re really unsure about what to do and you don’t have anyone you can talk to, then remember

you can always call Childline on 0800 11 11 or visit their website for more advice Source:
