President’s Message Sally Williams • 698-0234 • [email protected]

Welcome to the New Year of 2015. I hope that in the past weeks you, your loved ones and friends have enjoyed happy times together. I look forward to seeing you in the New Year at luncheons and activities when we can catch up on news and have fun over lunch, bridge or one of the many other good activities our club supports. If you have a little extra time in the weeks to come will you serve on the 2015 Nominating Committee? If you have loved Crazy Bridge in the past, would you and a friend handle reservations for this one-time, spring event? Would you help me put together two or three “outings” for our members and guests to places such as the Camden Friends Meeting House? If you could help with any of these things please give me a call at 698-0234. In case you are already having trouble keeping your New Year’s Resolutions, take heart from this quote by comedian and columnist, Joey Adams: “May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s Resolutions.”

Best wishes for the coming year,

Sally Williams

Election and Nominations

Our president Sally Williams is in the process of appointing a 2015 Nominating Committee. Please call Sally (698-0234) if you are interested in serving on the Nominating Committee. The slate will include: President, First Vice President/Activities, Second Vice President/Programs, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer/Membership, Recording Secretary, and Corresponding Secretary/Sunshine. The new slate is presented at the March luncheon and voting takes place at the April luncheon.

If we missed anyone’s birthday, we are sorry. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. REDNER’S RECEIPTS – Treasurer, Tina Morris Save your Redner’s receipts - groceries and gas. For the last few months, I have been collecting receipts and turning them into cash. Redner’s sends us 1% of the combined value of the receipts. We donate that back to the two schools. Because of you all we will be getting a check for $103.00. This is an easy way to make money for the school .Keep the receipts coming. NEWCOMERS ACTIVITIES – Barbara Hogan Some of our activities still have openings for either permanent members or substitutes. Please contact either the chairperson of that activity (see Newcomers Directory) or me if you are interested in joining. Also, if anyone would like to start a new activity, please contact me at the contact information stated above. FUN is the name of the game where our activities are concerned. Join or start one. You'll be glad you did.

LUNCHEONS – Galen Kotzun, Cheryl Moore, Wendy Leicht Our luncheon is February 19, 2015 – $16. Menu: Soup is chef’s choice. Sliced pork tenderloin with apple brandy sauce, mashed sweet potatoes and vegetable blend, and carrot cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Coffee/tea/lemonade. Contact anyone of the luncheon co-chairs for more information.

TEA TYME – Anthonette Brand At the May, 2015 tea we are auctioning off themed baskets and asking our members’ help. Volunteers are needed to donate items and bring them to our monthly luncheons. Please donate items related to each month’s theme. The theme for November is “Celebrate the Holidays.” January’s theme is “Bath and Body,” February’s is “Plant Your Garden,” and March will be “Coffee and Tea.” Call Anthonette to let her know the items you are donating. Baskets are also needed. PHILANTHROPIC – Myra Vondran Early in December I spoke with Paula, the secretary at Kent County Community School, and was advised that they would be moving back into their school on Carver Road by early January. I will call on them once they are settled in to their “new” quarters. When I spoke with Paula, she said that they were, once again, having an Olympic Bowling event in January. I asked if the school needed any help. She will get back to me about the event date and possible help. I will contact KCCS’ new principal again and set up an appointment to meet and talk about Newcomers. All is well with the Charlton School and they have no needs at this time. I will visit with Ruth Rains in January, once they are back into their regular schedule, and “catch up” with news and events.

All about our Activities BUNCO I – Kathy Brennan (temporary chair) Due to illness in Joan Shouldis’ family, Day Time Bunco, that meets on the third Wednesday of each month, will be temporarily chaired by Kathy. The Newcomers Creed

I will not curse the darkness in this dreary world, instead

I will light a little candle and pray that its glow will spread.

I will not blame my neighbor for his color, ways or creed,

But I will seek contentment in helping the ones in need.

I will not be an island considering my life replete,

I will try to share enrichment with everyone that I meet.
