CONNECTIVITY:Digital: the City Deal will transform Newcastle into a ‘Super-Connected’ city. Over the next three years, the city will see significant uplifts in its digital infrastructure, with investment in strategic sites that will provide businesses access to superfast bbroadband speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Gateshead is already operating a network that sees broadband speeds reaching 10 Gbps.

Transport: the North East is the only UK region with a balance of trade surplus. To capitalise on this strength, existing transport infrastructure will receive investment. We already have wide ttransport links that include three deep sea ports and extensive road, rail and air routes. Additional infrastructure will create greater access for commuter, freight and business journeys. The development of North East transatlantic connections will add to the already plentiful stock of flight routes available at Newcastle International Airport.

MARINE & OFMARINE & OFFSHORE:Through partnership work with UKTI, the local councils and their key businesses will work to secure a further £500 million in private sector investment for the development of the marine and offshore industry.

NewcastleGateshead is immediately initiating an investment programme as a result of a ‘City Deal’.

It is a significant investment, covering 80 hectares, that will release a large number of development opportunities across the area.

It demonstrates an exciting and unique opportunity for inward investors.

The City Deal allows both Gateshead and Newcastle City Councils to retain new business rate income for 25 years, which thwhich they intend to reinvest into identified growth areas.

Over the life of the scheme the area will see investment reaching £1 billion, which will strengthen our infrastructure, connectivity, public realm and create an extensive range of developments across the North East Urban Core.

Development and growth will be accelerated on key sites and viability gaps will be bridged through enabling works including site preparation, demolitions, energy and utilities infrastructure and highways improvements.

The City Deal also sees a commitment to establish Newcastle as a Low Carbon Pioneer City.
