Salmon fishing, steelhead fishing, crabbing, and sturgeon fishing trips
NW Oregon, Astoria, Tillamook Bay, Buoy 10
As your Oregon fishing guide, Bob will give you his all-out effort every time while fishing for salmon or sturgeon on
Oregon’s rivers from his comfortable twenty-two foot jet sled, or leisurely drift fishing trip down a beautiful Oregon
north coast river for ocean fresh steelhead or salmon. Bob is a native Oregonian and has successfully guided fishing
trips with beginning and expert anglers fishing in Oregon and Alaska waters since 1991.
He has fished Oregon rivers and the Pacific Ocean since 1978 and is willing to share his secrets and techniques to
guide you into fish. Your catch will be cared for from the time it hits the net to ensure the freshest and healthiest
meal for you to enjoy after your fishing trip is complete.

Executive Director Bob Rees has been a long-time supporter of the Association of
NW Steelheaders. Formally a full-time fishing guide of over 20 years, Bob took
the reigns of ED in April of 2014. Bob stated, “I’ve known for quite some time that
I wanted to be an Executive Director of a non-profit. What I didn’t know was that
I would have the good fortune to be able to work for one that has such a “deep
bench” of dedicated volunteers that works on issues that I’ve volunteered to
work on in my history as a guide.”
A 6th generation Oregonian, Bob brings a good amount of knowledge to important issues that affect the sport
fishing fleet and is deeply excited to grow an organization that has over 50 years of history protecting a resource
that is second to none. Schooled in fisheries technology, he has a deep understanding of the life history of
salmonids and what it takes to keep wild populations of fish healthy. Additionally, Bob understands the role our
hatchery system plays in the success of our Northwest fisheries. “Without hatcheries, we don’t have hatchery
fish and therefore, anglers, that pursue and pay for this resource. Once the funding base for our natural
resource agencies corrode, so do the necessary programs that enhance our fish and wildlife for current and
future generations to enjoy; both on a consumptive and non-consumptive level,” Bob says. Contact Bob at
executivedirector(at)anws(dot)org.

GILL NETTING PSA 2016 - This is a CCA video post
Most know about all of this but it is a good thing to look at it and share with everyone you know. The
Commercial Gillnetters and others involved in keeping gillnets on the Columbia River target people that
have no idea what is going on. People that don't know the damage need to be educated on what is really
going on. It isn't a move to no commercial harvest it is a move to harvest responsibly and selective
harvest.

This was commented on while listening to Outdoor GPS
recently.
Question if I'm trolling with a dropper how do I figure
out how much line to let out on my line counter reel.
This is based on a 45 degree angle and is accurate
within a foot or so. It is also affected by speeding up
etc. but if you can maintain a 45 degree angle your
close.
Multiple the depth by 1.41
Example: Want to run 25’:
25 X 1.41 = 35.25
You usually want to be inline with the fish or above
them. Supposedly fish won’t go down after a lure.

In a stern letter delivered Monday to the governor and commission, the coalition
threatens to withdraw support from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife if a
revision to the Columbia River Plan is adopted.
It was signed by representatives of the Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association,
Association of Northwest Steelheaders, Coastal Conservation Association and the
Northwest Guides and Anglers Association.
It also reminds Brown anglers are the agency's major financial supporters and warns her
none of the suggestions from an unrelated legislative task force to improve the
department's funding will get traction if the Columbia plan is altered.
*From what I have read if accurate that funding by anglers is 60% of what ODFW receives.
Commercial Gillnetters, who get most of the representation, contribute 2%. A real
imbalance of fair representation for sure.
Bob Rees, executive director of the Association of Northwest Steelheaders, said "It's kind
of kindergarten mentality for sure...But we have to underscore we don't feel we're being
heard."

Headlines
Bob Rees will have information to discuss at the meeting. From what has been
sent out and heard ODFW and the Commission have decided to put off the
Columbia River Reform for another year.
Also what is interesting is Washington has apparently not been involved with this
decision. So how does Oregon decide for both states. If Washington stands their
ground and wants to continue with the plan as intended with no gillnets on the
Columbia River as of 2017 then what??
Oregon Considers Not Implementing Full Planned Columbia Fall Salmon
Reallocation In 2017
Planned Lower Columbia fall Chinook allocation reformations next year could be
put on hold and that’s raising alarm bells in the Sportfishing community.
Oregon fish managers are proposing not moving to an 80:20 recreational:
commercial split in 2017, as WDFW and ODFW had agreed to several years ago, and
instead want to continue with recent years’ split as well as continue gillnetting in
fall above the Lewis River.
