Muddy Water is the oldest certified organic vineyard in North Canterbury, growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling on ungrafted vines in our twelve hectare farm. Planted in 1993 on the calcareous clay slopes of Waipara – the literal translation of Waipara is “muddy water”. We ferment wild in our straw-bale winery on site and bottle the wine ourselves. Pegasus Bay is an entirely family owned and operated winery situated 45 minutes drive north of Christchurch in the Waipara Valley. Rimapere means “five arrows” in Maori and simultaneously honours the Rothschild family’s coat of arms (five arrows symbolising the five sons of dynasty founder Mayer Amschel Rothschild, out to conquer the world) and traditional New Zealand culture. Benjamin de Rothschild dreamed of creating his own Sauvignon Blanc wine.
