YOUNG GUNS: There are currently three players 21 years old or younger on the Islanders 27-man roster. Mathew Barzal, 20, made

his NHL debut last season before being sent down to juniors (Seattle, WHL) after two games. Anthony Beauvillier, 20, made his NHL

debut and recorded 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) in 66 games during his rookie season last year with NYI. Josh Ho-Sang, 21,

also made his NHL debut in 2016-17. He scored 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 21 games with up with the Islanders. Beauvillier,

who turned 20 on June 8th is the youngest player on the roster. He is 13 days younger than Barzal.

BACK-TO-BACKS: The Islanders will play 16 sets of back-to-backs this season. The Islanders are 1-1-0 in front ends of back-to-

backs and 1-1-0 in back ends. Their next back-to-back set will be Nov. 10-11 at Dallas and San Jose.

BENCH BOSSES: Doug Weight was named interim head coach of the New York Islanders on January 17, 2017, and became the

19th Head Coach in Islanders history. The Islanders went 24-12-4 in 40 games under Weight. On April 12 the ‘interim’ tag was

removed. Weight promoted Greg Cronin to associate coach and named Kelly Buchberger, Luke Richardson, Scott Gomez and Fred

Brathwaite to his coaching staff over the summer. Weight, Cronin, Buchberger and Richardson will coach from the benches in-

Doug Weight was named interim head coach of the New York Islanders on January 17, 2017, and became the 19th Head Coach in Islandershistory. On April 12 the ‘interim’ tag was removed, making him the fulltime head coach of the Islanders.  Prior to assuming the role, the Detroit, Mich. native served as Assistant Coach and Assistant GM.  Weight, a four-time NHL All-Star, was named the 12th captain in Islanders history on October 2, 2009.
