Below is a breakdown of the funding being awarded to New York. The state competitive funding and state formula funding will be granted to the New York Commission for National & Community
Service, the governor-appointed State Service Commission. The Commission will, in turn, award grants to nonprofit organizations and/or public agencies responding to local needs across the state. In
addition, funding is also being awarded to one or more national direct grantees, which are organizations headquartered in New York that support AmeriCorps members serving in more than one state.

AmeriCorps members will serve the neediest of New Yorkers by staffing neighborhood shelters in
times of disaster, training neighborhood residents in disaster preparedness and response, delivering
financial literacy education to economically disadvantaged New Yorkers, expanding service learning
activities in SIG schools, providing tutoring and mentoring to the children of the incarcerated,
engaging veterans in service opportunities, overseeing case management of human resource referrals
and services to veterans and military families in the city of New York - all resulting in a stronger
nonprofit and public infrastructure and a more resilient populace.
