This concert will also feature Ed Neumeister, trombone. Ed is an extremely talented, triple threat jazz trombonist who is known for his performing, conducting, and composing. He is now the professor of Jazz Trombone at the University of the Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, and has also founded the NeuHat Ensemble and the ENJO (Ed Neumeister Jazz Orchestra) that perform mostly in New York and Los Angeles. In his dozens of recordings he has been described as a lyrical and intriguing improviser, and he has a musical sound that you will not want to miss. The Nebraska Jazz Orchestra (NJO) was founded in 1975 and is one of the Midwest’s premier big bands, celebrating over 40 years of great performances. The NJO has toured Europe twice, including a 1997 performance at the prestigious Montreux International Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland.

In 2006, the NJO was featured in a documentary by Nebraska Educational Television entitled “Hard Times Swing.” The NJO performed live for this documentary that followed the development of territory swing bands that changed American pop culture. The NJO was also awarded the 2007 Mayor’s Arts Award for Artistic Achievement in the Performing Arts. This honor recognizes the exceptional efforts made by the NJO to nurture and advance the art of jazz music in Lincoln.
