prepare an inspiring performance for the One World Trade Center event. They truly saw how music can have such a positive impact on the lives of so many,” said Carroll. “Further-more, the children were so thrilled to represent all of the students who have access to Education Through Music’s fantastic program throughout the city.”

“It is magnificent to see One World Trade Center and the support of The Durst Organization for Educa-tion Through Music, as ETM’s mission is so important to our city’s present and future success in education,” said Bernstein. “As Board Chair, I am grateful for the opportunity to spread awareness of the organization’s efforts to provide access to music education to all students.”

program also received prominent vis-ibility in Times Square where roughly one million visitors gathered for New Year’s Eve festivities and the iconic ball drop. The billboards stretched ten stories above 46th and Broadway and were visible during live telecasts on major networks, including ABC, NBC and CNN as part of their live special New Year’s Eve broadcast.

Morgan Stanley has selected ETM as one of its annual Lights on Broadway nonprofit winners for 2018. As part of the program, ETM will be featured on Morgan Stanley’s video screen in Times Square during the month of March.

ETM’s students to perform on the 64th floor for the building’s tenants.

“We are proud to host ETM at One World Trade Center,” said Jonathan (Jody) Durst, President of The Durst Organization. “For nearly three de-cades ETM has been spreading the joy of music to New York City’s public school children and we are thrilled to partner with them in the lighting of the spire and are honored that they are holding a concert for our tenants.”

Students from ETM Queens partner school P.S. 154 performed a rousing selection of songs, including Perfect Winter Day, My Favorite Things and John Lennon’s Imagine conduct-ed by music teacher Thomas Carroll. After the performance, the students enjoyed refreshments and took in the breathtaking views stretching as far as Westchester, New Jersey and Long Island.

Grammy-Nominated Children’s Artists Rally in Support of Education Through Music

ETM partner school teacher Melissa Salguero with ETM Teacher Mentor Stephanie Nantell.

The 2018 Best of Family Show-case at Symphony Space concert, which featured Best Children’s Album Grammy Award nominees, helped raise money for ETM. The concert was held in support of ETM partner schools the day before the 60th annual Grammy Awards Cer-emony.

This year’s concert featured performances by the Best Children’s Album nominees, Alphabet Rockers, Gustafer Yellowgold, Justin Roberts and 2018 Grammy-winner Lisa Loeb. Each donated their performances to support the music education cause. SiriusXM Kids Place Live host Kenny Curtis emceed the concert.

The day before the benefit con-cert, the California-based hip-hop group Alphabet Rockers paid a spe-cial visit to ETM partner school P.S. 142 in Lower Manhattan on Friday, January 27, where they performed for pre-kindergarten through first grade students. Kaitlin McGraw and Tommy Shepherd Jr., who started Alphabet Rockers 10 years ago with the idea of inspiring kids through music, used their hip hop music and dance to

spread their message of empowerment and social justice to an enthusiastic audience of students.

“Education Through Music was excited to be involved with such an ex-ceptional group of Gram-my-nominated and win-ning musicians who have dedicated themselves to providing children with music,” said Education Through Music’s Execu-tive Director, Kathy Dam-kohler. “A special thank you to Alphabet Rockers for treating ETM partner school students to an exclusive performance, and for the support of Just Kidding at Symphony Space. It’s so gratifying to see the music industry come together in sup-port of ETM’s mission to ensure every child has music as part of a well-rounded education.”

Congratulations to Education Through Music partner school teacher Melissa Salguero of P.S. 48 in the Bronx, the recipient of the 2018 Grammy Music Educator Award! Sal-guero was placed by ETM as a general music teacher at P.S. 48 in 2010, and has received professional develop-ment support over the years from ETM.
