New Year’s eve with the Mummers Fancy Brigade A s s o c i a t i o n at the Philadelphia Mummers Museum Ring the New Year with the Mummer’s Fancy Brigade Association e Mummers are as much a part of New Year’s in Philadelphia as confetti celebrations, countdowns and resolutions. Like clockwork on January 1, Mummers parade through the city streets in sequins, beads and colorful plumage, strutting and playing the day away. ere are the Comics, clowns and the like; the Fancies, pulling floats; and the String Bands, who make their own musical fanfare. And then there are the Fancy Brigades, who put their own spin on a time-honored Mummers tradition by taking their revelry inside the Pennsylvania Convention Center. e most theatrical of the bunch, the 11 Fancy Brigade clubs get into character with lavish costumes, elaborate floats and props, then take center stage to perform Broadway-quality choreographed skits. No matter what their stripes, Mummers pull out all the stops in a show that is a year in the making, all for bragging rights for the most festive New Year’s display. Competition aside, collectively, the Mummers have won a spot in Philadelphia history for their infectious showing of style and spirit, for more than 100 years. Year after year, they put on a sequin-studded show nobody should miss! FANCY BRIGADE FINALE Two Exciting, Guaranteed Indoor Shows for Mummers Fans Family Show at 12 Noon Calling all fun-loving groups and families! e New Year’s celebration gets started at 11:30 a.m., with a meet-n-greet with the Fancy Brigades. Snap pictures with performers on the show floor, and get in step with the merrymaking in a Giant Mummers Strut. en catch the Mummers matinee at noon, with 4 ½-minute performances by each of the 11 competing Fancy Brigades. You’re in for a spectacular 2 ½-hour show. Fancy Brigade Judged Show at 5:00 p.m. Fancy Brigades put on the ritz for top performance honors in the day’s second show, the judged competition, at 5:00 p.m. Prizes are awarded based on judges’ reviews of choreography and costumes, with an overall winner and captain chosen. Of course, after all the mingling earlier at MummersFest, you’re sure to have your own favorites.

New Years Eve with the Mummers Countdown to the New year at a special reception at the World Famous Mummers Museum, catered by the renowned Swan Caterers, voted best of South Philly (Two Street and Washington Ave.) in the heart and soul of South Philadelphia. Sure to be an Unforgettable celebration, New Year’s Eve with the Mummers Fancy Brigade Association takes place from 8:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. Enjoy a hone hour cocktail reception with mouth-watering butler hors d’oeuvres, and take a free tour of the museum, followed by a fabulous full dinner buffet, delectable deserts, non-stop dancing, of course a lesson on the legendary Mummers Strut.
