16 th Foundation Day of College of Engineering Roorkee (COER) College of Engineering Roorkee organized a day program to commemorate the 16th Foundation Day Celebrations of COER on Monday, December 01, 2014 in the Auditorium of campus. The Chief Guest for the 16 th Foundation Day Celebrations of COER was Hon’ble Shri. Sanjay Baliyan, State Minister Agriculture. He inaugurated the celebration by lighting the ceremonial lamp. On this occasion, he was Accompanied him while inaugurating the celebrations. Apart from that many other dignitaries from different organizations were present during the commemoration of the 16th Foundation Day Celebration of COER. After Deep Prajwalan, Shri. J. C. Jain, Chairman, COER welcomed all the dignitaries and guests present there. He while delivering the welcome address explained how and why the COER has been established in Roorkee. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of technical education in the present era and how COER can contribute to improve the education scenario of the country. Shri. M.K. Mittal, Director General, COER shared the achievements of the Institution in this year and future projection of the institution in the education sector as COER will be one of the centers of excellence in the field of education. At the same time, Director COER SM, Dr. V. K. Jain also explained the development and achievement of COER School of Management. Shri. Sanjay Baliyan, State Minister Agriculture, addressing the gathering praised the achievements of the institution and the sincere attitude of the Management of COER. He expressed that more and more intra-research and collaborative researches with other institutions and universities should be carried out at COER. He praised the achievements of COERians by distributing Proficiency awards to 55 First year and Second Year students and 45 students of B.Tech third year and fourth year. The Chief Guest of the Celebrations appreciated COER team members who have provided their services to this institute since last 10 years and have given 100% result in their subjects. In the same regard, Faculty Motivation Awards and Service Recognition Awards were distributed to more than 34 faculties and staff by him. In the end of the function, Mr. J. C. Jain Chairman COER and Mr. Subhash Jain, Secretary-COER, presented mementoes, as tokens of reverence to the chief guest and the guest of honor. The vote of thanks was offered by Mr. Subhash Jain, Secretary, COER. The function reached its formal close after the colorful cultural programs depicting the cultural heritage of our country. The program performed by COERians was highly appreciated by all. Along with the chief guest and guest of honor the stage was shared by the keynote speakers Dr. Saro Lee, Korea Instiute of Geoscience, Korea, Dr. Prabhaker Mateti, Wright State University, USA; Dr. M N Hoda, Chairman Division I, CSI; Sh. J. C. Jain, CMD, Texplas Group of Industries, Haridwar; Sh. Shreyance Jain, Director, Texplas Group of Industries, Haridwar, Sh. M. K. Mittal, Director General, COER and Dr. V. K. On the occasion of Foundation Day which was celebrated on Dec. 1, 2014 ,a breathtaking and eye soothing cultural program was presented by the students of COER including singing, dancing and skit. This time the theme of all the performances were based on Swach Bharat.A group of students named EDC started the function by presenting Ganesh Stuti in their own way. A student group Zenith also presented a beautiful dance performance on cleanliness and hygine. A marvelous mime act based on the concept of save “Maa Ganga” was presented by a group Gaghogs. The program ended with a fusion of old and new hindi songs performed by Prasoon and Shubham. All the performances were very much appreciated by all the diginitaries and students present there. The huge response from all has been a great motivation to the students and team members.

‘Abhyudaya – The Literary Committee entered its new start with a new zeal and enthusiasm for current session. The committee organized its event English Aptitude Test – EAT to enhance the verbal ability of the COERians which favours them in various competitive examinations. It was held on Nov. 10, 2014 where more than 200 students participated in the event. A new concept of GROUP DISCUSSION was introduced by the committee to provide platform for enhancing the presentation skills of the students yielding to a conclusion. A summary of presentations with specific points/observations made for each individual of the group by the learned experts. The committee organized a DEBATE competition on Dec. 05, 2014 in Conference Hall on the current issue “Gandhian Principles are Valid in Present Scenario or Not”. In continuation, a new event CONTRA+VE was introduced on Dec. 06, 2014 to develop writing skill on a given topic to narrate the issue with its positive and negative aspects. The issue for CONTRA+VE were Reservation policy, Development of diplomatic relations with USA, Privatization of professional education and Boundaries of life. The committee is moving ahead for designing work and editing of articles, stories and poems to publish annual college magazine “MUCUR”.

It is really a great news to share with COERians that Linguistic committee is coming soon with its most indispensable annual fest “Expressions”. This time Expressions has been planned to come with all its bright colours in the month of February, 2015. All COERians be ready to check yourself on an authentic ground where you not only judge yourself but also polish your skills. All the best for your performance and may go bless you with success in this New Year. ECO-CLUB COER Eco-club has finalized the plan for upcoming Green Festival “HARITIMA 2015”. The fest will be organized in the last week of February 2015 at Institute Campus. A Team of Forty Eco-Members ready to shoot the target of Environmental Awareness and its management among the youth. One of its members has got the guideline to get some supports from outer agencies like Pollution Central Board, Forest Department of Uttarkhand and many more to establish their objective on state levels.

Pankhuri Team Pankhuri is an Active NGO of our college comprising of 60 members from all the years. It works on intra and inter college level. Its roots were laid down 5 years back in this college and now it has spreaded its wings to other parts of uttrakhand region. Pankhuri is rapidly achieving its one set goal “Education for all”. It is a self funded organization and works for upliftment of Belda Village. Team had recently conducted a Cloth-Donation drive and Health Checkup camp in nearby areas. Even administration and faculty staff have joined hands with Pankhuri and have come forward for this noble cause. We wish team pankhuri with all the luck in working for this noble cause.

KARUNA CLUB

Karuna Club conducted a workshop on “Vegetarianism and Non vegetarianism: Is Your Choice” for High School and Higher Secondary Students of Spring Field School, Bahadarabad ( Hardwar ) on December 06, 2014. The programme commenced with the Karuna Prayer and Karuna Pledge. Dr Ravindra Saini was present along with the four students of Karuna Club COER, Roorkee,named as Piyush Karanwal, Sanchit and Saurabh.

Karuna Club conducted a workshop on “Vegetarianism and Non vegetarianism: Is Your Choice” for High School and Higher Secondary Students of Nehru Bal Vidya Mandir and Jr High School Saharanpur ( Distt-UP ) on December 07, 2014. The programme commenced with the Karuna Prayer and Karuna Pledge. Three students of Karuna Club COER, Roorkee, named as Anjali Tomar, Abhinandan Arora and Megha Bhargav were present there.

DISHA

The Technical Committee Keeping in mind the need of strong aptitude and verbal ability among students, Disha The Technical Committee organized CAT (COER Aptitude Test) on Nov. 07, 2014. A good number of students appeared in the test. The Robotic and Innovation Club (TRAIC) organized robotic contest ‘Resurgence’ on Dec. 05, 2014. Aim of the contest was to propagate knowledge among the COERians.

SPIC MACAY On October 30, 2014 SPIC MACAY completed ten glorious years in COER. SPIC MACAY COER performed Nukkad Natak a street Play on November 07, 2014. It was based on theme “The Unsaid and Unheard Truth of Society”.

SAE India @ COER

Student members of SAE India@COER under the team name “Revanta” has participated in the national level competition “EFFiCYCLE” and has cleared the Dynamic Test, Endurance Test and Brake test. The Tricycle model set up by young COERians stood 36 out of 120 participating teams.

SAE-NIS Student Seminar -2015

SAE-NIS Student seminar was conducted by SAE at Graphic Era University Dehradun.50 membersof SAE@COER participated in the seminars and won first prize in the collegiate club presentation, second prize in the technical (Auto) Quiz. Mr. Thomas Mathew got the trophy from SAE-Nis for being the best faculty advisor for the Collegiate club. The seminar was organized by Maruti Suzuki(I) Ltd.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP

A Blood Donation Camp was organized on October 16, 2014 in Vardhman Auditorium under supervision of Prof. V. K. Singh Dean – SW. The event was inaugurated by Mr. M. K. Mittal Director General Sir. A large number of students, faculty and staff came forward for the noble cause. More than 350 units of blood were donated. All the donors got a letter of appreciation cum certificate and a small bag with immediate refreshment as a matter of encouragement and motivation Blood report and a Donor Card valid for one Year had also been given to them. A dedicated team of Mr. Taresh Singh. Mr. N. K. Pandey, Mr. P. S. Chauhan and Mr. Arvind Kumar worked dedicatedly for successful organization of event with group of 20 dynamic student volunteers.

Faculty Achievements Dr. Himadri Phukan, Assistant Professor, COER-SM has

been awarded as Accredited Management Teacher (AMI) by All India Management Association, New Delhi in November, 2014. This award has been given to her on the basis of her Academic qualification, experience and expertise in the area of Marketing and Human Resource Management.

Dr. Pankaj Bijalwan has been appointed as a member of reviewer committee of Elsevier Editorial System for Tourism Management for the year 2014-15.

Dr. Summiya Parveen, got the Life Time Membership of International Association of Academicians and Researchers.(ID: INAAr/1685) ,The Indian Science Congress Association ID-A2566, and The International organization of Scientific Research (IOSR).

The exposure to the industrial process and environment gives a student an inside of the whole system. COERians undergo industrial training during summer vacation and after training period, the students are required to submit a report which is evaluated by a team of experts and is accordingly graded. A large number of COERians have undergone training in company/organizations of national importance. Some of them are IBM, BHEL, BRC, HCL technologies, Wipro Technologies, Lava international, etc. This time COER provided placement for more than 160 students of 2015 batch. COERians have been selected in leading companies example HCL technologies – 68, Ways2capital -21,Jk Technosoft-13, WIPRO TECHNOLOGIES-4, JSW Steel-2, Academia Guru-7, AMCAT-1, Compro Technologies-4,etc. The good news is that COERians are getting recruited in the top ranking professional companies of India in a good numbers. Salary package offered by companies is 14 lakh/ annum and average salary package is 4.5 lakh/annum. As followed by good placement record at COER, Placement process is still going on for the batch 2015. For last three months, students also participated in the recruitment process of companies like Safenet Inc, Johnson controls & Woxa Technologies. Apart of this Campus connect programme, TIME classes were also being organized in COER Campus for the enhancement of technical as well as professional skills of COERians.

UTU Odd Semester Examinations

The Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) has assigned the responsibility to conduct the odd semester examination of session 2014-15 at 51 different examination centers. It may be honored that College of Engineering Roorkee (COER) was one of the examination centers. 69 different Laboratories were utilized to perform the practical examination during December 18-25, 2014. 3017 students appeared in practical examinations and their performance was assessed by different experts from GBPUAT Pantnagar, GBPEC Pauri, and KEC Dwarhat etc. The theory paper examination stated from December 26, 2014 under the supervision of Dr.V.K.Mehta, Centre Superintendent, COER along with UTU observer. It is observed that the examination was carried out according to the instructions and guidelines of UTU. The Examination will complete on January 23, 2015. COER was Nodal Centre during these examinations. Seven different colleges (TechWord, Om-Bio Science.RCE, Phonics, SDIMT, RIMS and Ramanand College) was associated with this Nodal Centre.

SPECIAL LECTURES

A new initiative has been introduced to inculcate the value system and other aspects of life management. For improving the quality of life a series of interaction between faculty and senior management of the college was flagged off by chairman Shri J.C. Jain, who shared his views on philosophy of achievement in life. It was subsequently followed by a presentation on “Moral Values” by Director General, Shri M. K. Mittal and presentation on “Team Building” by Director COER SM, Dr. V. K. Jain. This will be continued in coming weeks and months.

Sports News

Utrakhand Technical University (UTU) Inter Collegiate Tournaments was held from September 2014 to November 24, 2014 where Basketball Girls’ and Basketball Boys’ remained winners and kept the flag of COER high. At the same time COERians were announced winners in Football also. In Inter-Branch Tournament (Sports Vaganza) 2014-2015, ET team became winner team and CE team was runner team in Cricket and Table Tennis.

Congratulation

Karuna Club, COER Roorkee has been awarded as a "All India Outstanding Karuna Club Award" by Karuna International, Chennai for promoting moral values, social values and vegetarianism. This award was given in the National Conference held at Jodhpur, Rajasthan during December 27-28, 2014.

Industrial Visits

An Industrial Visit to Patanjali Food and Herbal Park, Laksar was organized for MBA I Semester Students on October 15, 2014. All the students enjoyed a lot while visiting the biggest Herbal Park unit in Asia. It is just like rediscovering Indian Culture heritage and our great past. Mr. Sudhir gaur and Ms. Akanksha Jain coordinated the Visit.

An Industrial Visit to Everest Industries, Bhagwanpur was organized for MBA students on November 11, 2014. The manufacturing site of Everest Fabrication was one of the important lessons for all the students to know about the operation in production. Mr. Sudhir Gaur and Veeralakshmi coordinated the visit.

An Industrial Visit to Anchor India Pvt. Limited, Sidcul was organized for all MBA and Under graduates students on November 14, 2014. A group of around 30 Students visited the Organization and understood various processes. Mr. Sudhir Gaur and Dr. Prafful Dixit coordinated the visit.

Value Added Programme COER-SM regularly organizes the value added programme(VAP) for students to motivate and raise the confidence among them so that they can cope with the outside world. During this period the following VAPs were conducted:
