It was fascinating to hear six leaders from different aspects of our civic life answer the question: ‘What keeps you awake at night?' The only problem was, they were so interesting we overran! This year, therefore, we have four speakers: Paula Lorimer, the new Director of the Harrogate Convention Centre; Wallace Sampson, Chief Executive of Harrogate Borough Council; Steve Russell, the new Chief Executive at Harrogate District NHS Trust; and, returning from last year’s breakfast, Lisa Winward, the Chief Constable of North Yorkshire. This year we will be meeting at The Ivy on Parliament Street on Thursday 10 th October, 7:30 8:45 am with a choice of excellent breakfasts. To learn how to pray in an informed way about what is going on in key aspects of our civic life, please book via: https://civic- prayer-breakfast.eventbrite.com. Tickets are £15. A Summer garden remembered – a poem by Barbara Stone A nostalgic moment on revisiting the house where I was born.

Where are the irises my childhood knew, the buttercups that crowded round the lawn; the pastel roses that in clusters, grew beneath my window; and at break of dawn where is my blackbird who trilled out his song; and claimed a perch upon the garden wall; then, as the early hours crept along, the warm and welcome tone of Aunty's call? What makes me yearn to be that child again, when childhood took so brief a time to pass; yet stirs up memories of summer rain, and swishing through the puddles in the grass, where buttercups and pale pink roses grew and irises in dappled shades of blue?

Chris was ordained last Saturday afternoon surrounded by his friends, family and colleagues. The Bishop announced that it was also Chris and Sam's wedding anniversary! On Sunday, Chris presided at the Eucharist for the first time and received a standing ovation. A magnificent lunch was served by our Parish Events Team – thank you to them for all their hard work and to everyone who brought such delicious food to share.
