The 6th International Conference on Fine Particle Magnetism (ICFPM) “New trends in nanoparticle magnetism” will be held in Rome, Italy, from Tuesday, October 9 to Friday, October 12, 2007 at CNR Headquarter, Aula Conferenze, Piazzale A. Moro, 7. ICFPM-07 is the 6th edition of the ICFPM series, previously held in Rome (1991), Bangor (1996), Barcelona (1999), Pittsburg (2002) and London (2004). Members of the international scientific and engineering communities interested in recent developments in magnetism of nanoparticle systems and associated technologies are invited to attend the Conference and contribute to the technical sessions. ICFPM-07 is held under the sponsorship of Italian National Research Council (CNR) and promoted by the Project “Innovative Magnetic and Superconducting Materials and Devices” of the "Materials and Devices" Department and by the Institute for Matter's Structure of CNR.

The aim of the conference is to bring together the experts in the field of nanoparticle magnetism at a single forum for discussing recent developments in both theoretical, experimental aspects, and technological applications, related to the field of nanoparticle magnetism. The technical subject categories for the Conference are interdisciplinary convering theory, materials preparation, structural characterization, optical, transport, magnetic properties and technological applications. In particular, ICFMP-07 program will cover: • Organization of magnetic array (self assembled nanoparticles, nanopatterned media) • Multifunctional nanomagnets • Magnetic core/shell nanocomposites • Metamaterials • Surface/interface induced phenomena • Spin dynamics • Magnetotransport • Sensor and devices • Biomedical Applications

Authors are invited to make an effort to present their work in the best possible light. To maximize your chances of acceptance, please strictly follow the guidelines and keep in mind the following abstract acceptance criteria used by the Program Committee: • The research must be about magnetic nanoparticles, new findings and related technology. • The work must be original and significant. Abstracts that describe incremental advances over previously presented work will be rejected. • The work must be substantially complete. Abstracts that do not specifically refer to new results or are largely conceptual will be rejected. • Sufficient context and detail must be included to allow the program committee to readily make an assessment of the work. • In the interest of allowing as many groups as possible to present their work, groups or individuals considering the submission of several related abstracts should, whenever possible, combine them into a single submission. • The abstract must be in understandable English. If necessary, have a native English speaker edit your abstract before submission.

Authors are expected to bring their presentation on a flash memory or on a CD ROM. Authors are also invited to show up at least 30 minutes before the beginning of their session in order to upload their presentations. Poster presentations will consist of well-prepared visual materials about the work posted on a designated board, with the author available to present details and answer questions during the selected poster session. The Board dimensions are NOTE: Simply posting a copy of the paper is NOT appropriate and will be treated as a NO SHOW. The surface area available for posters is 180 cm long by 100 cm wide. The Conference provides a small sign designating the paper to be posted on each board, supplies and a small number of pushpins for posting the paper on the board. Authors are requested to indicate their preference for oral or poster presentations in the spot provided on the electronic form. The Program Committee will make the final decision on the assignment of papers to sessions and the presentation format for each session. In the e-mail notice of acceptance, authors will be notified of the type of session for their presentation. They will also receive an e-mail for detailed rules and instructions for effective presentation. The Proceedings of the Conference will be published on a special issue of Journal of Physics D : Applied Physics. Only invited and oral contributions will be included. Detailed instructions on the preparation of manuscripts for submission to the journal will be available on the Conference home page for authors whose papers are accepted for presentation at the Conference. The maximum paper length is six journal pages for invited papers and four journal pages for contributed papers. All manuscripts must be received by Novembre 30, 2007. This deadline will be strictly observed. Post-deadline manuscripts will not be accepted and not forwarded for review. Authors are reminded that review standards will mirror those used for regular articles submitted to Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics and that, because of time constraints, a second review may not be possible for resubmitted papers that were originally rejected. Papers must be presented at the Conference by an author registered at the Conference in order to be published in the Proceedings. All manuscripts must be submitted to in electronic form (guidelines in http://authors.iop.org/atom/ usermgmt.nsf/AuthorServices) so that it can be refereed without postal delays and be published more quickly. You can do this via the Web, e-mail or FTP. Instructions for submission and accepted formats will be available at the appropriate site, and links to the site will be available on the ICFPM website. The site will be available for submission beginning August 1, 2007. All papers to appear in the proceedings MUST be submitted in this way. No paper manuscripts will be accepted. Reviewing and revisions will all be handled through these online systems. An exhibition of books and scientific Journals will be held as a part of the Conference.
