November was a month full of medical awareness events. It was
almost a ‘medical’ month.
It was a great month for Naruvi Hospitals as well.
The 5th seminar was a grand one. And well attended too.
Christmas is around the corner. So is the new year. A time to
rejuvenate ourselves and take on the new year with renewed zest
and zeal.
The Naruvi Print this month is very special. Called the Workers
Edition - this issue is dedicated to all the workers who brave the
weather, be it sun, rain or gale, to make the Naruvi dream come
true. This edition is being published in Tamil and Hindi too, for
the sake of the workers. I hope everyone, workers included, enjoy
reading the Workers Edition.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone.
Jai Hind.

Welcome to the Workers edition.
A special design to embody the true spirit of Naruvi.
The photographs in this edition were captured on the
Naruvi Hospitals site specifically for this edition.
It was a privilege capturing their work.
T H E L A S T M O N T HThe 5th Naruvi Seminar was held on the 24th of November.
It was a panel discussion on cadaver organ donation.
‘Understanding misunderstandings’ was a grand success.
Dr. Sunil Shroff, Founder Trustee of the MOHAN Foundation
delivered the keynote address. The talk was extremely informative
and well received by the entire audience, medical and non-
medical alike.
The panel discussion was moderated by Adv. Lakshminarayanan,
an eminent lawyer of the Madras High court & Senate member of
the MGR Medical University. He handled routine and
controversial issues with supreme ease, tactfully avoiding
discussions flaring into arguments. The panellists were equally
eminent.
Prof. Ambrose, Head of Legal Studies, University of Madras dealt
with legal issues expertly. He has been involved in the coining of
many of the medical laws in Tamil Nadu.

Dr. Sanjay Govil, a liver transplant surgeon of excellent repute
and Dr. Ganesh Prasad, a Nephrologist & kidney transplant
specialist of equal repute fielded all the medical queries, leaving
not a single stone unturned.
Last and certainly not the least, Prof. Gautam, Head of Sociology
at the Loyola College wrapped up many of the controversies from
a sociological angle. In all, the discussion was so vibrant, showing
no signs of easing off, that the moderator had to wind it up, to the
disappointment of many.
The 3rd Rajeswari Memorial Award for Medical Excellence was
awarded to Prof. R. Surendran, a transplant surgeon of national
and international renown, for his contribution to Liver
Transplantation in the government sector, for the first time in
India.
Prof. Surendran delivered his oration which was as scientific as it
was simple and as entertaining as it was touching.

Construction workers see the fruits of
their labour when they pass homes or
office buildings they helped to create.
They demonstrate a sense of pride that
comes from developing or renovating a
structure. However, pride doesn't always
motivate construction workers to continue
meeting their employers' performance
expectations.
Motivating construction workers requires
an extra step in recognizing talent,
harnessing skills to benefit the company
and implementing unorthodox ways to
revising the company's construction
processes.
1: Enlist the aid of journey person
construction workers to lead
apprenticeships for your new employees
interested in becoming tradespersons,
such as carpenters, plumbers, bricklayers
and heavy-equipment operators.
Plum assignments are a way of
recognizing the talent of seasoned
workers, which is one of the most
effective ways to motivate workers.
2: Obtain feedback from construction
workers about design elements.
Employers who seek contributions from
employees -- outside the precise talent or
skill they were hired to contribute --
convey an important message about how
much they value their employees. Ask
construction workers what they believe
are appealing design and structural
components for new buildings or
renovations. Encourage employee
suggestions on how to improve processes
or update conventional building
techniques.

3: Create an employee rewards system for
showcasing the talents of construction
workers. For example, if your company
receives a commendation from a client
expressing pleasure with the quality of
workmanship in the stone masonry, let
that employee know how much their work
is appreciated. Making public
announcements for employee rewards are
exceptionally effective in motivating
workers. Employees want to share their
successes with their co-workers; a public
announcement about the
customer's satisfaction is an effective way
to share an employee's accolades with
fellow employees.
4: Give construction workers the
opportunity to select the projects on which
they work, if feasible. Enabling decision-
making among your workforce motivates
construction workers because it empowers
them and helps them feel they have some
input on their work assignments. While
this may not always be possible, whenever
you can ask for volunteers, extend that
opportunity to your tradespersons.
5: Announce opportunities for advancement
and give current employees a chance to
apply for supervisory or management
positions before you post job vacancies
externally. Provide supervisor and
leadership training for construction workers
who want to expand their expertise and
move into different areas of your business.
