Bill & Dorothy hosted our small but mighty Pot Luck in July. The group said they really enjoyed themselves. Our Board term is half way thru & we have en-joyed our learning experience, meeting so many new peo-ple & all the parties. I'll bet we will miss being so busy. Ray continues to enjoy the Men's Breakfast & Bocce Ball. He and Nancy go to the Yacht Club often to enjoy the pool exercise program. Some of us will try our hand at the Wine and Canvas painting class this week. Maybe we will sell you one of our creations. Until next month, peace be with you!
.The Paradise Pirates are waiting for the fall batch to come back so we can start up our pot lucks again! Some of us have been doing club events and sneaking into some other pot lucks in the meantime waiting for the group to get back to numbers. Still meeting New Residents and having fun!
…All’s quiet on the South Western Front as many of our group are outta town. Here’s what’s going on with our group: Marci: Went to Chicago for a week to visit family. Margaret: Leaving in early August for Richmond, WA and returning at the end of the month. Chuck and Ione: Spent a week in Aruba celebrating Chuck’s July birthday and in August they are visiting their granddaughter (who is now 6 months!) in Iowa then stopping by St. Pete to see their other son on the return. Sherry and Tom: Had a fabulous time cruising the Danube in June! They have put their fam-ily home in Michigan on the market and will move into a condo that’s being built next spring. In the meantime, they are heading to Canada for a month long adventure and stopping by to see Ginny and Bob on the way! They will be visiting Quebec City, PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, then through New England and back home to CC. We’ll see then next in January!
It’s August with amazing sunrises and sunsets, mountains of clouds hanging in the horizon and our normal subtropical weather finally kicked in. With the afternoon rains in mind, the Transplants planned indoor and outdoor fun. Some of our expert fishermen found a calm day and took to the sea. Lots of fish and fish stories. Another trip is planned soon. One night, the Transplants played “glow golf” where the balls glow and features of the putt-putt course light up. Another night, several of us went to A Time for Wine to taste wine, learn the winemaking process and make our own special wine. Of course, wine takes time to age and our wine makers will pick up their wine in a few weeks. Dinner followed at KJ’s in Fort Myers. Speaking of wine, a wine tasting group formed earlier this year met at a Transplant member’s home to taste California Chardonnay and have wonderful food. This proved again that food and wine and good conversation do go together. However, wine is not required for a good time. Iced tea and hot tea at the Wisteria Tea House accompanied lunch for a group of Transplants hungry for delicious food and some time to enjoy catching up - after all, a lot happens here. Golfing, bowling, mah jongg, shopping trips, fishing trips, exercise classes, volun-teering, friends and family who visit, home projects, art projects, travel plans, birthday and anniversary celebrations, and much more that happens every month in Paradise.
The only thing good about summer going so quickly is our snow birds will return soon. Ray may need to wear a name tag after the nose surgery so the Northern folks will recognize him. Shirley & Wally flew out to Utah to see Wally's pregnant daughter. That is so sweet. I think the baby (a girl) is due the end of Octo-ber. While up in that neck of the woods Wally is going fishing with friends to Canada. I'll bet Shirley will be busy buying baby stuff while Wally fishes. Win - win for both! Karolyn represented the SOB's at the Ladies Luncheon. Wonder is she won any prizes. Linda went on a long journey to a Tenn. family reunion. So glad to be back home with my NRC family.

SEPTEMBER 2015
Bonnie and Mac: Went to The Cape (as in Cod) for a week where the weather was lovely and in the 90’s and also went to Connecticut coastline visiting relatives. Lynn: Has been enjoying the summertime free concerts in So-mers, NJ with friends where they picnic in lawn chairs with undercover (red solo cups) cocktails. Michelle: Headed up to Illinois to attend a 40th class reunion. Her knee is doing great and she’s moving better every day. She hopes we’ll have more pot lucks again to enjoy. Nita and Fred: Are getting settled in their new home and having fun! Page and Bruce: I think this summer is even lovelier than last, even lovelier than Connecticut summers! We're not seeing as much rain and definitely as much lightening, the temperatures are hot but fabulous. We're able to use the pool more mid-day this year. So for all you snowbirds who think it's dreadful here in the summer - stick around and find out for yourselves that it' is Paradise year round. Just saying! The Cape may slow down during the summer, but not the Pelicans! We keep cool with pool parties, boat parties, and lots of potlucks. The ladies have their bunco parties and the gentlemen have their golf and poker parties. We celebrated six August birthdays for Ray, Larry, Laura, Andra, Grace and Ruth….too many names for one cake! Our August potluck was a huge success with live enter-tainment by Johnny. A couple of Pelicans hosted foreign students for almost a month. All students were invited to come to our events and see what it is like to live on the Cape. There were two young men; Carlos Rubio from Spain and Nico Wajs from Austria staying with Peter and Trish. A young lady, Lena Gruas from France, staying with Laura. Wow, we are going international! We celebrated our one year anniversary and we have made such great friends, like we have known them forever! Half of the Peli-cans got together and went to the Broadway Palm dinner theater to see Footloose. The fun never ends with the Pelicans! ….until next time.
. Travel is the game this month - Some of our travels were taken with Brenda Serbonich enjoying the Chesapeake, the Kenneys leaving for their son's wedding in Maine, the Warners celebrating (on the same day) their daughter's wedding on the opposite coast, the Rozums are now back from their summer road trip (they probably were in half of the states). Everyone will soon be back in the Cape, even the snowbirds! Our August birthdays were celebrated at our Pot Luck with Leonard Brown (8/3), and special recog-nitions for Jim Fitzgerald (8/30) and Mary Chapman (8/27). Both Jim and Mary are celebrating birthdays ending in "0". Our Pot Luck was held at Linda and Dave Fairley's home. Linda outdid herself with lasagna, salad, bread and provid-ing drinks. All we had to bring were appetizers or des-serts. Needless to say with the rest of us bringing those, we had lots! It was a good way to celebrate the milestone birthdays! Thanks Linda and Dave! Some of those joining the party were Susan & Leonard Brown, Mary & Roger Chapman, Diane & Herb Kenney, Elena & Len Patke, Dolores Walters & Carl Limmer and Maria Vodola.

Our next Pot Luck is September 12th and will be at the Rozum's. Our Cape activities are still ongoing with ladies lunches, bowling, trivia, bocce ball, golf, cocktails on the cape, etc. in addition to attending other community sponsored events in the area. Hope everyone is enjoying the dog days of summer. Here it is time for the kiddies to go back to school. Where did the time go? We celebrated our July birthdays at Nestor's. We enjoyed our July potluck at Mike & Barb's. Thanks to them for opening up their lovely home to all of us. It was supposed to be a pool party but mother nature had other plans. It rained cats and dogs the whole time we were there. We had 15 Gulls attend the general membership meeting. Vickie won a raffle prize. Our Gulls have been busy entertaining family and friends or visiting out of state. Tina & Bob are having the adventure of a lifetime sailing their new boat down from Maryland. Vickie visited with with family near Salt Lake City. Gordon and Pam's daughter and grandson were down visiting. John and Jill's grandson was here for a visit. LuAnne and Mike's granddaughters have visited and kept LuAnne and Mike very busy. Jill, John, Lori, Mike, Barb, Gordon & Pam attended a quarter auction at the Italian American Club in support of the animal shelter. Gulls have been seen attending Bacon Fest, playing Bocce ball and going out for dinner afterward, and getting together for breakfast at Anthony's on the Blvd. Our next Gulls potluck will be getting together for a fun filled round at Jungle Golf followed by dinner at Bayside Grill. Some of our Gulls will put on their thinking caps for intrigue and dinner on the Mystery Train. We will celebrate our August birthdays at Carmines. Happy birthday to Pam (20th), John C (6th), Nancy (26th), and Suzanne P (7th). Hope to see everyone at the Atlantis Revisted Dinner/Dance, Ladies Luncheon at Buon Appetito and Cocktails on the Cape at Coconuts Bar & Grill. GULLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN!!!!!

.Great balls of fire! It is hotter ‘n a $5 car stereo down here! HOW hot you ask? Well, the OFFICIAL WINK FORECAST is exactly the same every day: 93 degrees, partly cloudy, 50% chance of showers. Here’s the LIT-ERAL translation: The day starts out clear and pleasant-provided you arise no later than 5:45 am. By 6:15 the oppressive humidity kicks in, and your lungs start taking on vapor. If you don’t get the dog walked before 7am, you will need a spatula and a bag to carry him home in. By 9am you need a shower after a trip to the mailbox. Temps and humidity continue to escalate, until by 2pm you lack the will and energy to breathe. The once clear sky is now burgeoning with massive thunderheads that continue to stretch and fill until around 4. This is where the real fun starts. Bolts of lightning straight from the hand of Zeus rival the evening fireworks show at Disney. Thunder rattles the house like hubby’s colon after an evening of Wendy’s Firebrand chili. The ensuing deluge is something akin to the collapse of the Hoover Dam and emptying of the Colorado river in its entirety , all within the span of 20 minutes. Empty lots become small lakes, teeming with ducks, gators, and ka-gillions of mosquito larvae. Side note: Mosquitoes should be our State’s #1 export. We have plenty. We should share. Just sayin. Anyway… In spite of this, we are frantically making the best of it, as the height of hurricane season is upon us, and…WE’RE GONNA DIE. Speaking of hurricanes, if we have one, I think it should be named BABZ and it should be huge. I’m talking Fuccillo Kia HUGE. If we are going out, we should go out in spectacular fashion. Oh, and it should rain glitter and hail tiaras. If a hurricane is gonna have my name, it should be FAB u lous…. But, enough of MOI. We’ve been busy with fun stuff like Cocktails on the Cape (Lyle Marshall and Lilian Frane make a quick 1100 mile jaunt to see us), and a “GLITTERY” NRC meeting. (you had to be there) Jim and Janet Saunders hosted a bacon-themed potluck, and we “pigged out”. Everything, including dessert, was laced with glorious bacon. For this festive occasion, we all doubled up on our Lipitor. Now I’m not saying there is some serious competition going on down here, but the Sept. potluck will be held at Tom and Sue Driscoll’s to

. The Fabulous Flip Flops have been active even though our numbers dropped significantly when the snowbirds flew away. Those of us remaining have participated in bocce ball on Wednesday afternoons, (even with the soar-ing heat and humidity), and bowling on Thursday morn-ings, (thankfully it is indoors). Our “Pot Lucks” have been lots of fun although small in number. Thanks to Page and Bruce for hosting in July. They also invited other NRC folks, giving us the opportunity to meet other new resi-dents. Larry and Betty Day will be hosting the August pot luck with a picnic theme. The Ladies Luncheon, as al-ways, was fun, fun, fun. For those ladies not attending the luncheon, you don’t know what you are missing. Some of our group attended “Trivia Night” at Nemo’s and the sin-gles get together at Ford’s Garage. We are looking for-ward to all the upcoming activities and are hopeful for more participation. In other news, Charlie and Diane Brown are closing on the sale of their home up north and becoming full timers in Cape Coral! Also of note, Bill and Joyce Preston recently celebrated their 45th wedding anni-versary. Congrats and Kuddos! . It has been an extremely busy month for some members of the Funseekers. Tami spent a week in Atlanta taking a foster dog to her forever home. It is a beautiful city if you ever wanted to go there, she highly recommends visiting. She, along with several other NRC members attended the singles event at Ford’s Garage on August 7th. Julie and Jeff continue to be busy. Jeff went to New York City at the end of July and had a short visit their younger son. They also saw Jason Alexander in a play on Broadway. How exciting is that! Julie, Terry, Dana, Lisa and a couple of Lisa's friends kicked up their heels and attended line dancing at the Dixie Roadhouse. They had loads of fun! They’re going to set up a Funseekers night at Dixie some-time in October. Jeff and Julie went to
show off their newly remodeled home. Not to be outdone, Leslie and Jay Schmitt promptly put their house up for sale, and are building a new one. THEN they will want the potluck at THEIR home… and all I ask out of life is a simple frikkin’ BOAT…. Ok, what else? Well, there was a whole lotta trav-elin goin on. The Cataneses spent some quality time with family in NH. The Andrejkos and Alexan-der’s have posted some amazing pics of time out west, and Joe Blaesing biked 500 miles across Iowa! Joy Ault has been through the wringer with some serious kidney problems, but she IS doing better. Continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. If you did something fun, saw something cool, or just want to stay connected, please post on the FB Bratz site. Otherwise, I will make up lies about you and talk about myself. Ooh! win win! FINALLY….You MIGHT be from Cape Coral if: To get from the north end down to the Yacht Club, you cross through two counties and a time zone! Until next time, stay FAB u lous!!. As summer winds down and fall approaches, the Corkscrewers have been busy, as usual! Lots of our people have been traveling. We've visited family and friends and gone lots of fun places! We all wished a Bon Voyage to Gail and Kevin who are taking a month long vacation to travel Europe! How nice for them, and we hope they have a grand time! Our group was well represented at the last game night at Nemo's. Lots of brain power in this group!!! The guys ended up in a tie with the gals, so every-one gets bragging rights! A few of us are planning an evening boat ride, which should be fun. Several of our ladies are still painting masterpieces, which is always great. We're also planning to go on the Mys-tery Train one evening. The last potluck dinner was at Barb's lovely home. Our theme was PICNIC! Barb's always such a lovely hostess, and a good time was had by all. We're continuing to gather to-gether once a month to celebrate all birthdays and anniversaries for the month. We always have a nice turnout for these fun evenings. Did you remember that the Sunset Celebrations will begin again in Oc-tober? Won't be long, now! YIPPIE!!!

Nashville to see Jeff’s Dad and brother. They had lots of fun. Julie came home with a new pair of boots. Those will be helpful at Line Dancing! Julie then went to Tulsa with her mom to see her brother who had a medical issue. He is doing well now. From there, they went to visit her nieces and nephews in Missouri and Kansas. From there they flew to Jersey for her other niece’s bridal shower. It was lovely and they are look-ing forward to the October wedding. Talk about a busy month!! I am tired just writing about it! Debbie and Bob went up North for three weeks. They had a great time catching up with their friends and family back in Buf-falo. They stayed with her brother for two weeks. While in Buffalo, they met up with Carol and Bob from the Funseekers, who are snowbirds. They will be back in Florida in December. It was great seeing them. They had a wedding in Buffalo. From there, they went to Mt. Vernon, Ohio for wedding number two. It was all out-doors and the weather couldn’t have been nicer. They headed home the day after that and drove though Tampa. They just missed the storms and wild weather, which they were truly grateful for. They joined some of the Gulls for the South Cape Bacon Fest. It was great. 14 bars in four hours. All had a bacon themed drink and bacon themed food. The Trolley ride was the best Can’t wait for next year’s event. Julie, Jeff and Debbie showed off their artistic talents while attending the Wine and Canvas class where they painted a beautiful picture with a beach, sunset and palm tree. For those of you, who never did this, believe me, you need no talent as evidenced by my “masterpiece”. It was a lot of fun and I encourage anyone to attend one of these classes if you can. Bocce Ball on Wednesday’s con-tinues to be fun. It is a great way to meet new people. The Funseekers who regularly attend are Oscar, Bob and Debbie. Give it a try sometime, no experience needed. .
.The end of July and the beginning of August finds many of the Sun Rays out of town and others travel-ing locally. A few of the Sun Rays went to Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers Beach this month. I recom-mend J. N. Ding darling national wildlife refuge. Very beautiful, very peaceful. As for the rest of the sun-rays not traveling, well they have been very busy at-tending many of the NRC events. Gary and Lillian keen and Sharon tennis have become regulars at Wednesday night bocce ball. Several of the Sun Rays Ceill and Rich Buss, Linda Friday and Dave Gentile attended the dinner dance on August 18. Many of the Sunrays met at Nemos for trivia. Barb Swann, Marlene Lemro ,Linda Peterson, Rich and Ceil said " they didn't do so well at trivia but had a great time and lots of laughs ".

NRC MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTNRC MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
August 2015 Bruce Flournoy President, Board 96
. Greetings New Residents Labor Day is upon us, the unofficial end of summer - But not for us in Cape Coral!!! As the rest of the country slides into fall, our summer weather continues until the calendar turns. It’s time to take advantage of the remaining off season quiet time; because before you know it we’ll be entertaining guests and complaining about traffic. I’m continually in awe at the creation of Cape Coral (and the NRC) out of a tract of undeveloped land. In a mere 55 years it has grown from nothing into the 10th largest city in Florida by population. Of course, the city’s path has not been without bumps on the road, but the NRC has been there since almost day one to welcome new people into the city . The community we live in is fairly unique in that it has had the continual growth to supply the Club with a constant supply of new residents. I know that the city Page & I came from couldn’t support a club of this kind – there just aren’t enough new residents coming in! Most of us come to Cape Coral looking for a better life and the NRC truly provides a means to jump start our time here with great friends and lots of fun. On the topic of FUN, The NRC Dinner Dance features a theme for the men – MAN CAVE!!!! So get out your sports jerseys, tank tops, party attire, and let’s party! Also this month don’t miss the Comedy Night at Anthony’s on the 13th and the “Fabulous Hats” Ladies Lunch at Water City Grill on the 17th. Check out the calendar in the newsletter for all the activities. Fair Winds & Smooth Sailing Bruce Flournoy
