July 2020 3 www.capecoralnewresident.com

July 2020 My last Email of 6/22 reported the latest update on our Club restarting and there is good news. The Yacht Club will reopen in August so we are planning an August 4th General Meeting @ 9:15. We are also planning on an August Dance on 8/22 and a Ladies Luncheon on 7/16. All of this is based on today’s situation. Please understand that this remains a very fluid environment. Things could change or worsen and we could revert back to a shut down. We are anxious as you all to get back to our “new normal”. I will send out an updated email just as soon as we know anything. Please be patient and stay tuned. Being new to Florida and the Cape, I thought I was ready for the Florida heat. But seriously?? I got in my Jeep the other day and the temperature registered 103 degrees. And it was still June! I’m all in favor of a bright and sunny Summer but what will July and August bring? My wife tells me to take deep breaths and it will all be good. Maybe with all of this sunshine, it will kill all of the remaining Covid and we can remove our masks. Don’t know about all of you, but my tan lines are becoming a little strange. We are all anxious to reconnect as one big group - to see old friends and to make new friends. In the meantime, stay in touch with your own groups. I’ve been told that several of them have restarted their pot luck get-togethers. Please stay safe, be supportive of your neighbor and be assured, this too will pass. And as always, should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me or any of our Board Members.

What’s In Season Now

If you haven’t visited this site, you should. It’s really interesting!

https://www.fdacs.gov/Consumer-Resources/Buy-Fresh-From-Florida/Crops-in-Season

Fresh is best. Consumers around the world look for and value the “Fresh From Florida” label. Knowing when items are in season is the key to knowing what to look for when shopping.

Why eat seasonally? Products are fresher and tastier, and nutritional value is optimized. Plus, eating seasonally encourages a diverse diet, is often more economical, and harmonizes with nature’s production cycle.

If you would like to print out a list of Florida agricultural products that are being harvested this month, select the link at the top of the page. Add the products to your grocery shopping list and enjoy fresh Florida produce at its peak.

These Florida items should currently be available in your grocery store; if you don’t see these items, ask your store manager.
