COVID-19 ConsiderationsESY Services:

Special Education ARD committees evaluate IEP and determine whether students will be needing Compensatory Services or ESY

◦ Compensatory services provide a student with a disability the educational services needed to make up for skills or learning that have been lost when services described in an IEP were not provided.

◦ ESY services provide individualized instruction and services to prevent the severe or substantial loss of skills or learning during the time beyond the regular school year when schools are not in session. (Reported in PEIMS Extended School Year)

COVID-19 ConsiderationsBilingual/ESL Summer School:

Requirements to offer supplemental support not going away. More flexibility has been given to complete requirement.

Waiver has been obtained: They have the entire school year (beginning June 1st – June 1st, 2021 of next year) to fulfill 120 hour program requirement.

◦ Complete this summer 2020 (face to face or virtual). (Reported in PEIMS Extended School Year 2019-2020)

◦ Start in summer 2020 and complete by 20-21 SY. (Reported in PEIMS Extended School Year 2020-2021)

◦ Start and complete in regular school year 20-21 (after school/Saturdays). (Report it in PEIMS Extended School Year 2020-2021)

◦ In-person summer school programs including staff and student participants (up to school discretion; keeping it optional for students; offering virtual instruction in case parents desire it)

◦ Virtual summer school programs, which may require some teachers to use school facilities to deliver instruction

the summer months.

• Student ends up not having to take TSI test nor take remedial classes at college.

Expanded Learning Opportunities:

• 85th Texas Legislature (2017) passed legislation requiring the collection.

• Structured Learning Program that is voluntary (or supplemental to instruction) and held in Summer months.

Expanded learning opportunities may be provided by offering:

(1) rigorous coursework;

(2) mentoring;

(3) tutoring;

(4) physical activity;

(5) academic support; or

(6) educational enrichment in one or more subjects, including fine arts, civic engagement, science, technology, engineering,

and mathematics.

• Intentional academic and academic enrichment activities/routine and regular

• Nutritional meals and/or snacks
