DEADLINE FOR DECEMBER

NEWSLETTER IS DECEMBER 13TH

My husband spent some time splitting maple logs for the woodpile this

morning, as the last of the leaves floated down to the forest floor. He

takes pleasure and pride in creating the long rows of neatly piled

seasoned firewood. We both anticipate enjoying the lovely warmth of

the woodstove in the coming cold.

In my sewing room I also create long rows of fabric, then sew them into

quilts. I have "piled" my fabrics on the shelves in colour coordinated

(more or less) rows and likewise take pleasure and pride in the

creativity. I hope the quilts and handmade gifts give warmth to the

recipient and a sense that someone cares.

I really enjoyed Anita Zoben's time with us last month. She was so easy

to listen to and I learned a lot about needles and thread, the "tools of

our trade". We had a number of guests as well to hear Anita and I have

heard from several that they felt welcomed by the guild members.

Good for you!!

I have also heard good things about Lorna McMahon of Sew Fresh

Quilts, our speaker for the November Meeting and look forward to her

presentation.

Hope you are all enjoying this beautiful fall weather and that you will

be able to come to the meeting Nov. 15th.

President Marion.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH REPORT Requests for comfort quilts are to be made to Pat Golem at 519-506-2434 or at [email protected]. Over the past month four comfort quilts have been given out. So far, 14 mission dresses have been passed on to a lady doing mission work in El Salvador in Feb 2017 as well as 28 dresses being given to the Hanover representative of Operation Christmas Child to be used in their projects. Outreach Summer Projects Please hand in the No Nonsense block packages (nine patch or hourglass) that were handed out in June. This month is the last month they can be handed in. We need them now to assemble into tops. Tuesday Workshop Outreach will be meeting at 1:30 PM. We will be working on sewing mission dresses. There are three more organizations outreach would like to make a donation of dresses to. Bring your sewing machines and sewing accessories and plan on sewing if you come. Mission dress kits are available to work on in the afternoon or to take home. Outreach has several comfort quilt tops ready to be machine or hand quilted. You can work at such during the afternoon session or take home to work on there. From Sept to June outreach needs to replenish its inventory with another 30 to 40 comfort quilts. If you make a top or quilt with your own pattern, the size outreach needs now is approximately 50” by 60". The Simply Sinful Comfort quilt pattern is taught at every afternoon work session. As well, there are 16 kits available to make the Anita Arrowhead block for a comfort quilt. Hand Quilting Outreach wants to thank Glenna Hibberd for generously opening her home at 8 Otter Crescent in Mildmay to the guild so that quilts can be hand quilted from 9 am to 4 pm on the following November dates - Mon. 14th, Wed. 16th, Fri. 18th, Mon. 21st, Tues. 22nd afternoon only, Thurs. 24th afternoon only, Fri. 25th.
