New Mexicans’ tax dollars pay less than 40 per-cent of the cost of operating one of the finest park systems in the country. Maintaining and advancing that high quality of service requires hard work, creative thinking … and creative investing of contributions from people who care about state parks and their neighboring com-munities.

The foundation’s objective is to act as an inde-pendent State Parks savings account - carefully investing contributions to help meet the most pressing needs of the State Parks Division and the communities it supports.

PRESERVING HISTORY

Protecting historic, architectural, and archaeo-logical sites is one of the most critical roles the New Mexico State Parks Division plays. Preserving history is about people, stories and tradition. It’s about educating our youth and honoring those who came before us. In a state such as New Mexico, historical significance can be found almost anywhere.

From the site of the famous Pancho Villa raid to the historic ranch home of Oliver Lee, our park system restores and interprets each location. They are careful to ensure our state’s stories are accurately told with cultural sensitivity to our future generations.

The New Mexico State Parks Foundation not only believes in the State Parks Division’s tireless efforts, but also in the invaluable investment your fiscal contributions can make in preserving these valuable resources and the rich history of New Mexico.

PROTECTING RESOURCES

Each year nearly 4 million people visit the 34 New Mexico state parks to enjoy the diverse lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, canyons, forests and des-erts they offer. With limited resources, the nearly 289 full-time staff members carry a heavy burden as they work to protect our valuable resources. That’s 3 full-time staff per park, to operate them 365 days per year. The New Mexico State Parks Foundation wants you to know you can help. Your gift will be used to ensure our resources get the care they need.
