THE TENDER HEART MINISTRY Works with the most vulnerable, disadvantaged and poor people in India – the Dalits. They want to expand the ministry to empower more people and enable them to hear about God’s wonderful love for them.

THE CHALLENGE To build a new purpose built centre which will providevocational training, life skills training, counselling, health advice, a day care centre for young children, as well as Christian teaching to empower the most vulnerable and needy to have a hope and a future.

The Dalit people live in the slums and do the work no one else wants to do. Our partners, Francis and Alison, have worked with them in Goa since 2007.

Tender Heart run several Day Care Centres for young children, which include education, Bible stories, medical care, lunch and transport. Parents are also offered health care, parenting advice and Bible teaching. This enables the children to stay with their families instead of being sent to an orphanage as often happens.

Dalit women and girls are particularly at risk, because of their severe poverty parents often sell their daughters into the Devadasi system of temple prostitution.

Tender Heart also run tailoring courses and computer training, offering the chance of a future for these forgotten people. Lives have been transformed through this ministry. Girls have been rescued from going into prostitution and given a means of income through a trade learnt at Tender Heart.

Through Tender Heart, adults learn valuable skills which can mean the

difference between them having an income or being destitute. Not only that, but the children’s work reaches the adults as well.

Francis and Alison tell how children go home and teach their parents and grandparents what they are learning. Through Tender Heart, children and adults

learn about Jesus. Worship and Bible studies are a regular part of the work that Francis and Alison do in the community.

At the moment in Margao city we operate a Day Care Centre for young children from two small rented rooms which are far from ideal. With a new purpose built centre we can considerably expand the work and provide support and training for many additional families and individuals
