description

New Leaders Council (NLC) is a 501(c)(3) that recruits, trains and promotes the progressive political entrepreneurs of tomorrow — trendsetters, elected officials and civically-engaged leaders in business and industry who will shape the future landscape...To achieve this, the Detroit Chapter of the New Leaders Council rose to the occasion and proudly joined 40 other chapters around the nation to contribute to the goal of training 10,000 new leaders by 2020. Led by Chapter Directors Kristin Bailey and Dr. Cecil Forbes as well as the tremendous direction and support of Ken Harris and the Advisory Board, NLC Detroit began recruiting extraordinary Fellows in Metro Detroit from outside traditional power structures to equip them with the skills necessary to be civic leaders in their communities and workplaces. This mission is realized primarily through the NLC Institute — the nation’s premiere political entrepreneurship training program.Detroit's first NLC Institute began in January 2015 with an outstanding class of 20 progressive leaders who are rising to the top of their respective fields as noted below.NLC DETROIT'S 2015 INAUGURAL CLASS:Shaniece Bennett, CPA – Managing Principal, Accutrak AccountingAmanda Alexander, Esq. – Soros Justice Fellow Chris Blount, Esq. – Probate and Criminal Law AttorneyKristen Carethers – ProducerAxel Cooley – President, Metallon LLC [Automotive Industry]Eze Ejelonu – Business Consultant, First Data/Huntington BankAngela Fortino – Business Development, Detroit Regional ChamberSean Harness – Commodity Buyer, General Motors Adrienne Hill – Education Improvement Consultant, Wayne CountyModeira Johnson – CEO, iCloud Intelligent Business Solutions, LLCMarcus Jones – Director, Detroit Training CenterRakiba Mitchell, MA, LPC – Senior School Counselor, Detroit Public SchoolsJay Rayford Jr. – Founder, Social Sushi; Dream Director, Future ProjectLawrence Robinson – Assistant to Director of Youth Services, City of Detroit Brittany Stallworth – Challenge Detroit Fellow, Beaumont Health SystemRobert E.
