KROSYS’ Commitment to Quality in the Water Treatment Industry KROSYS embraced a strategy in the early-80’s which effectively meant that all of the company’s operations would work towards establishing a world-leading water and wastewater treatment company. KROSYS has achieved and boasts high quality products in the world. KROSYS is one of the best membrane system makers in the world and has above 2,000 experiences for membrane processes since 1984. KROSYS’ business is striving to manufacture and market system which have the highest customers’ demand and is attempting to intensify the new technology development in the field of separation and purification technology. Especially, we insist on the concept of “quality without compromise” and “trouble-free reliable technology”. Now we are seeking to develop new technology and functional unit process to lead the environmental market. KROSYS’ major business is composed of RO membrane systems and fin stabilizer systems. Till now we have developed and commercialized desalination systems for seawater, brackish water and tap water. Major applications are focused on the drinking water systems for ships and islands. Especially we have sold RO systems for Korean navy and army. The highest reputations for quality and technology have enabled us to maintain big market share and become the leader of membrane system makers in Korea. We are committed to providing outstanding quality in products and services to their customers.

Production
KROSYS has system manufacting and inspecting shop in Shihwa factory. We are equipped with modern conveniences and almost all the machine tools, which are necessary for system manufacturing and testing. About 30 employees work for production and they are composed of welding and plumbing experts. We acquired ISO9001 certificate from DNV in 1999. That enables us to produce high quality products and establish effective process. Our most recent production process is simplified and well designed for package system manufacturing.

Key Technology and Core Business of KROSYS KROSYS began operating in 1984 as Korea’s pioneer of RO membrane system makers and has become the leader in the field of water and wastewater industries. Since 1984 KROSYS has achieved a fully integrated process design and engineering technology for RO, UF and MF membrane systems, as well as conventional filtrations, for example, activated carbon, ion exchange resin and general filters. In the beginning stage, KROSYS focused on the seawater desalination, especially for the usage of drinking water supply system of ships. As for the same application, KROSYS designed unique systems suitable for shipping vessels. As well as manufacturing small package systems for shipping vessel, KROSYS has developed medium size desalination systems for ships and island/seashore site. We have covered almost all the Korean market till now. Since 1984, we have set up more than 1,500 systems at major Korean fleet of commercial and fishing vessels, navy and coast guard patrol ships. The high reputation of KROSYS products enabled us to maintain the market share over than 95 percent of same applications for last sixteen years under keen competing local market of shipboard seawater desalination systems. By the basic RO process technology, we had developed specially designed drinking water system for army. The ministry of national defense of Korea approved KROSYS’ technology as excellent military specification. Korean army had even supported research fund to KROSYS. Till now, KROSYS has been appointed as best developer for membrane systems from Korean army. We are an exclusive supplier of van type mobile RO systems, ROWPU (Military mobilized RO water purification unit) to army. ROWPU was specially designed for supplying drinking water from seawater and brackish water during war. It can be operated even for CBR (Chemical, Biological & Radioactive) warfare.

Pacmar had supplied various range of reliable fin stabilizers to military and commercial vessel. We strengthened the fin stabilizer business by adoption of Pacmar’s technology. We are focusing on military vessels and pleasure craft now.

Brackish Water Desalination System ROWPU(Military RO Water Purification Unit)
ROWPU was specially designed for the requirement of military applications. It is the urgent drinking water supply system during warfare. ROWPU is set-up inside of ISO container. It is movable by truck and operated by electricity from it’s own power generator. It is basically used for brackish water desalination. But, in special cases, seawater is also available as feed water. Combined SW-RO and BW-RO systems enable to operate in land and sea, too. Specified filter blocks composed of activated carbon and ion exchange resin make reliable water quality under CBR warfare, KROSYS’ military KRO systems are available for industrial use as well as military use. The unique feature of our ROWPU allows to treat virtually any kind of feed sources including industrial wastewater and seawater.

Industrial Water Treatment Systems
KROSYS presents best solutions from ultrapure water and injectables to water reuse. Till now we have above 60 experiences in the industrial applications. We design and engineering membranes and related processes for the requirements of clients. From the experience of water purification, KROSYS has excellent system design idea. A reverse osmosis system, when integrated with an ion exchange demineralization system, can greatly save the maintenance and operation cost, and regenerant discharge control requirements of ion exchange deionization system. A careful study conducted by KROSYS shows that RO+IEX system is more efficient than IEX system when TDS of feed water is above than 125 ppm.

We are developing water reuse process by RO and UF membranes. Municipal wastewater reuse and reclamation of industrial effluents are target market of KROSYS. Till now, we have some experiences in the field of metal working places, chemical companies and paper industries, etc. RO is used for the recycle of wastewater to process. As the prefiltration technology we are developing UF and back-washable filter assemblies. For the purpose of effective building effluent reuse, UF and bio-process is operated in KROSYS process.

Membrane Bio-reactor Systems by Immersed MF membranes
We have experiences in the membrane bio-reactor process. Especially, we set-up sewage leachate wastewater treatment system with hybrid process of immersed membrane and RO. Those systems are successfully operated and will be adopted in the same applications. KROSYS is developing economical and effective membrane bio-reactor system and immersed membrane modules.

Fin Stabilizer Systems
Fin stabilizers consist of airfoil-shaped, wing-like projections placed port & starboard. These fins develop a hydrodynamic lift as water across them. The lift or stabilizing force is proportional to the square of the speed of the ship, to the angle of attack of the fin relative to the flow and to the lift coefficient of the foil section. The stabilizing moment is the lift force of each fin multiplied by the distance from the center of roll. Therefore, the roll stabilization results in an improved work platform and crew comfort during ship operation. Improvement in the work platform characteristics of the vessel extends the vessel’s effectiveness by allowing operation in sea states beyond the normal capabilities of the vessel .

The Fin Stabilization System shall be designed, shop fabricated and fully tested to provide quick, simple and easy shipyard installation with minimum labor or precision machining. The fin drive unit shall be designed for insertion into the hull foundation in one easy movement. The fin drive unit shall be fully assembled in the shop, including both support bearings in a simple uniform diameter tube ready to insert. The shell penetration shall be designed for boring to one constant diameter in a single setup; with no multi-diameter cuts or step boring required, and no fitting or scraping necessary at installation.

The control system shall provide independent electrical commands to the port and starboard hydraulic fin actuators such that the fins develop a stabilizing moment on the hull that is equal and opposite to that causing ship’s roll. The control system shall require no adjustments on the part of the operator and shall be self adaptive to the extent that it provides the maximum practical roll reduction over the entire range of forward ship speeds and sea conditions.

Quality Control for Integrity KRO’ technology was approved by army and our strong investment in efforts for quality control is directed toward assuring quality of membrane systems. We have several key technologies for quality control. There are basically required from military specification. Vibration, noise and mechanical properties seriously influence on system quality. Our systems were qualified by testing protocols of military specification. (Shock test : MIL-S-901D, Noise test : MIL-STD-740-1/2, Vibration test : MIL-STD-167-1)
