STEP #2Match your lawnto your lifestyle

The environment isn’t the only factor to consider, you should also consider your lifestyle.

Lifestyle breaks down into two basic categories; how you use your lawn, and how you care for your lawn.

Lifestyle factors for how you use your lawn includes high wear from children or pets. How your lawn handles wear and then recovers, can vary from variety to variety.

Factors for how you care for your lawn can include lawns that require more or less mowing, or lawns that require more or less input. Our premium lawn varieties may cost more to install, but their lower ongoing costs can save you money in the long term. This is thanks to premium varieties requiring less inputs.

Getting the right lawn for your family or lifestyle will ensure your lawn will stand up to the test of time.

STEP #3Be sure to get your

preparation rightPreparation is vital for installing a new lawn, both for the quality of the finish, and to ensure your new lawn can thrive.

You will need to ensure all existing grass and weeds have been killed off. Follow manufacturer’s directions carefully, wait 7-10 days and if all weeds and grass are not dead, repeat the process.

The area should then be turned over with a rotary hoe or pitchfork to reduce compaction of the existing soil. 50-100mm of fresh soil should be then brought in, we recommend an organic under turf mix.

Carefully spread the soil to create an even and level surface for your turf to be laid on. Ensure the turf will not sit proud of hard surfaces such as driveways and garden edges. If you have a brick house the surface must finish at least 75mm below the weep holes or Termimesh.

SOIL MATTERSYou will need to order 1 cubic metre of soil to cover 20 square metres at a depth of 50mm. Our sales team can help you calculate how much soil you need, and even arrange for its delivery prior to your turf. Just call (07) 3273 1166.

STEP #4Installing & establishing

your new lawnNow is the time to bring your new lawn home, the work you put in during installation and establishment will repay you for years to come.

Turf should always be installed on the day of delivery.

For most varieties (except TifTuf) we recommend applying a pre-plant fertiliser to give your lawn the best start. You should then start laying the slabs from a straight edge in a brickwork pattern, ensuring all slabs are pushed together firmly. Smaller pieces can be cut in using a knife or spade to fill in any irregular shapes.

You should start watering the turf 15 minutes after you lay the first slab, and give the entire area a good soaking. You should then use a turf roller to ensure all the turf has made good contact with the soil.

A strict watering schedule should then be followed to ensure your new lawn is continually moist for 10-14 days after installation. For best results a new lawn should be top dressed 6-8 weeks after installation.

WATERING SCHEDULE (Check local conditions): • Weeks 1 & 2: Water deeply 1-2 times daily • Week 3 & 4: Water deeply once every second day • Week 5 & 6: Water deeply twice a week • Week 7 onwards: Water deeply once per week

STEP #5Loving your newlawn year round

Now that your new lawn is established, a little regular maintenance will ensure you will be loving your lawn year round.

You can first mow your new lawn once it has anchored to the soil, this will take 14-21 days depending on the variety and local conditions. After this, you should mow on a regular schedule, always ensuring not to remove more than 1/3 of the leaf in any one mow.

To maintain a lawn in top class condition it will require regular applications of fertiliser. We recommend application of a suitable slow release fertiliser approximately 3-4 weeks after installation. Fertiliser should then be applied every 8-12 weeks.

Regular aeration and dethatching can also help keep your new lawn in it’s best condition. And if a lawn becomes uneven, top dressing can be used to both level the lawn and introduce fresh nutrients.
