• Food Service and Drinking Places accounts for 69 percent of L & H employment

• 24,000 establishments paid its 386,000 employees over $10 billion in total wages, 4.5 percent of all private wages

• Three of 10 jobs located in 3 counties: Bergen, Middlesex & Monmouth

• Workforce younger than the average for all industries but aging since 1998

• Rate of job growth from 2016 to 2026 is faster than that projected for the state overall (15.1%, L&H vs. 6.6%, all industries)

• Provides workers with foundational skills in customer service, punctuality, and responsibility

• Offers substantial employment opportunities with part-time and temporary work plentiful
