Research Questions

• How many international students came to Ontario between 2000 and 2012?

• What were their socioeconomic characteristics?

• What federal and provincial policies affected entry and transition?

• How are the macro trends identified reflected in a case study?


Data

We analyzed:

• Immigration and income data from Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Statistics Canada

• Policies affecting international student entry and retention

We surveyed:

• International students at Conestoga College in Kitchener-Waterloo

Ontario is the destination of choice for international students coming to Canada

More international students are choosing Ontario and college

Colleges have become the preferred student pathway over universities and trade schools

International students tend to be male and the majority are of Indian and Chinese origin


Students came to Ontario from all over the world (2000 to 2012 entries)
