Professor Emmanuel Brunet-Jailly,Professor at the University of Victoria(Canada) and Jean Monet Chair inInnovative Governance, delivered alecture on 'Bordering and Re-Bordering in Europe' on 7 March2019 at the Academy of InternationalStudies, JMI. He is one of the leadingexperts in the world on the newdiscipline of Border Studies and isDirector of the Borders inGlobalisation ResearchProgramme.

The speaker outlined the differingconcepts of 'borders', 'boundaries','borderlands', 'borderscaping'. Hepointed out that while the approachof the US to its borders in the Northwith Canada (with whom it shared acommon border agenda) variedfrom its approach to its border in theSouth with Mexico, its orientationwas broadly a realist one, while theEU followed a more constructivistapproach. He discussed how the EUhad taken over many of the functions

of states. The EU had moved awayfrom the concept of securitypropounded by the US that it hadshared with it after the Second WorldWar. If the EU army became a reality,it could either complement NATO, ormake the EU move away from NATOfrom within NATO.

Prof Brunet-Jailly spoke atinlength of Morocco, with which theEuropean Union had established arelationship that was ambivalent but

which suited both countries: fortrade and agricultural produce, inparticular, it was as if a part of EU,but for security purposes it was not.He spoke of the refugee crisis, thediffering policies of the member-states towards this crisis and ofBrexit.

Students and faculty asked manyquestions after the talk, to whichProfessor Brunet-Jailly gavedetailed answers.

FIREROB (Autonomous FireFighting Robotic Vehicle) (Studentof Power Electronics EngineeringDepartment of VishwakarmaGovernment Engineering CollegeChandkheda developed projectbased on Design ThinkingTechnique) On March 16, 2019,Under the guidance of Prof. V.G.Patel, HOD, Power ElectronicsDepartment and Principal Dr. RajulK. Gajjar, Design Exhibition Day(DED-2019) for the students ofPower Electronics Will beorganized by Prof. N.D. Mehta andDr. A.M. Haque to increase thequality of the economic human-centered ideas developed byDesign Engineering Technique.Prof. Karmjitsinh Bihola from OpenDesign School GTU will be invitedto share his experience toassociated students with the designengineering for the their futurework.

According to Kishan Trivedi "Weare working under the guidance ofDr. A.M. Haque and Prof. NiravMehta. The idea of the projectdeveloped because many seriousaccidents, including fire andexplosions in industrialestablishments and dangerousareas in recent years. Wewitnessed large fire andleakage accidents aroundthe world on facilitieshandling dangeroussubstances such asnuclear power plants, flammable andharmful materials, oilrefineries, and chemicalfacilities with petroleumand gas tanks.

According to ChinmayPriyadarshi "In this project, the use ofARDUNO controller and RadioFrequency-Controlled technology tocontrol nozzle and pump-gripper.

Due to this fact, access to regular fire

fighting vehicles withcrew inside is not

possible, 360-Degree NightVision Cameras can also observe

the occurrence of the event bystaying at a safe distance from thespot. The FIREROB is able to enterinto the heart of fires, operate and

navigate reliable and recognisedifferent objects, fight fire andremove flammable or dangerousmaterials”.

According to Dhrumil Modi "Atpresent, we control the FIREROBusing the radio-frequency-driventechnology in the project, but thisrobot can also be used in future, even in the long run and at far

distance using the IOT. In addition tousing the Tantalum Carbide, thevehicle used to protect the body toensure the explosion of fire andtemperature at approximately 3,600degrees.”

According to Mehul Mistry “theprototype of this type of projectwhich we have taken intoconsideration can be developed atthe cost of Rs. 11000 and the devicesused for this project are easilyavailable in the market.” Dr. A. M.Haque (M. 99091 73750) says that"This project is designed to make thefire fighter safe and easy to work. This project is unmanned. With thehelp of this project firefighters canobserve the occurrence of theincident by staying at a safe distancefrom the spot and can control the fire. With this project, fire can becontrolled from fire and fires, chemicals and electric appliances, except for normal fire.”

An E-waste awareness workshop wasconducted at Sree Narayana Guru CollegeChempazhnathy, Trivandram. Studentswere introduced about e-waste and its safedisposal. Nearly 840 students participatedin the activity
