We take the girls on a getaway

to a gorgeous beach house in

Galveston and enjoy seeing

NASA and Schlitterbahn. They

like to splash in the waves and

bury each other in the sand. It

is a chance for the girls to get to

experience the childhoods that

they missed out on.

It is prom and graduation rolled

into one special event! The girls

get makeovers and dress in

evening wear. The Taste of Texas

hosts our evening for the girls,

and we celebrate their hard work

with fine dining, pearl necklaces,

and crowns to let them know

how special they truly are.

On this day, each girl gets to

pick out a brand new business

wardrobe, complete with suits,

jewelry, purses, and shoes. They

look and feel amazing. These

clothes give them a glimpse of

their future selves.

Each week, the girls have to turn

in their budgeting worksheet

and receipts before they can get

paid. For many of them, this is the

first time they have ever tracked

their expenses. Attitudes towards

money changed very quickly,

and the girls learned how to save

money.

All of our special events are

donated by individuals, churches,

and businesses. Each day, a

different church provides a

hot meal for the girls and staff.

Businesses such as Shell Oil and

EarthColor Printing design and

print the labeling for the candles.

Individuals donate prom dresses,

gift bags, handmade blankets,

hygiene products, gift cards, and

laptops for the girls.

Why is New Creations, the

business, so important to

teenaged trafficking survivors in

Houston?

The girls we work with in New

Creations are between the ages

of 14 and 18. For many of them,

this is their first job. Out of all the

services we offer to teen survivors

(mentoring, tutoring, material

assistance & housing), giving them

a job is the most important and

effective measure in rebuilding their

lives. Work gives them dignity, pride,

and self-dignity. They are so proud

of the candles they made and being

able to pay for their own needs.

Besides making an income, what

else do the teen survivors learn?

Our New Creations’ program goes

far beyond making candles. The

girls learn how to budget, dress

professionally, write a resume, solve

conflict, develop customer service

skills and work ethic, receive GED

tutoring, and how to make good

decisions. We also invite lunch time

speakers from different professional

areas to share about their careers.

Our goal is to give them the tools to

be successful in life.

What is the next step for Free the

Captives’ New Creations?

At Free the Captives, we are excited

about growing New Creations! We

have maxed out of our donated space

and are looking for our own

permanent facility. Once we get

this facility, we will be able to hire

more teen trafficking survivors

and expand the number of hours

the girls can work. This means that

we can rebuild and restore more

lives through meaningful work!

The longer term goal is for New

Creations to become self sustaining

and then eventually have proceeds

sustain all of Free the Captives’

programs and services. Right

now, as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we rely

primarily on private donations.

New Creations is by far one of our

important programs, and it has

the most impact on restoring these

young girls’ lives.be successful in

life.
