Vision Statement Formed by the Word of God, nourished at the Eucharistic table, led by the Holy Spirit, and sustained by the community, we, the parishioners of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, are and will continue to be a source of hope and direction to all who are in need of the love and mercy of Christ. We will be an example of compassion and mercy, hospitality, and inclusiveness. All who come through our doors will experience welcome, warmth, harmony and belonging and know that they are “home.”

Readings for August 4The Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading I – Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21-23 Reading II – Colossians 3:1–5; 9-11 Gospel – Luke 12:13-21
LIFE FOCUS QUESTIONS• Which activities in your life fall into the category of “vanity of
vanities?” How might you exchange some of these meaningless pursuitsformorefulfillingwork?
• Ourfinancescantellusalotaboutourprioritiesinlife.Whenyou look at your monthly expenses, is your spending in line with what is most important to you? What about what is most important to Jesus?
• Where in your life are you “rich in what matters to God?”• Where is there excess in your life? How might God be calling you
to share that excess with others?
DEACON’S CORNER
WewelcomeFr.MirosławDawlewiczCSsR,RedemptoristforourannualMissionarySunday.Wewill learnabouttheRedemptorist’s Mission in Ukraine and Russia where they are building up the Church in these former Soviet Union territories.Heexpresseshisdeepgratitudetoallofusforourfinancialsupportandourprayers.
Speaking of our prayers, today’s readings encourage us to think about how we pray. We notice that Luke’s version of the Our Father is almost verbatim that of Matthew’s version with which we are most familiar, but differs in that it does not include “your will be done,” but accents what one should ask of God: forgiveness and daily sustenance. At the beginning of both versions with “Hallowed be thy name,” Luke emphasizes the humility of our prayer. As we praise Our Father, we do so realizing our dependence on Him; we the child, He the Father. A friend once said that he tries to pray for others’ needs with the intent that the person in need will seek God, His comfort, His answer, and His mercy. We must always trust that God hears us in any and all ways, that we pray as it expresses our hope that is based on our faith, that together manifest our love for Him.
Most of you know that I retired on December 1 of last year, and since then have been able to devote more time to my ministry. It is extremely freeing, to be able to perform my ministry without the constraints of a 9-5 career. Of course the ministry is a part of me in all my roles, but not having the stress of customers and meetings is allowing me to spend more time and improve the quality of my time with the Parish and now with the School activities. I just want to express how fulfilledIaminmyministryandhowfaith-buildingallofyouareforme.
God’s Blessings,Deacon Jack Malone
