Weaving Practicum

Friday & Saturday, Jan. 19-20 9am- 4pm Springerville/Eagar Center HCT099X-02

This informal class brings together weaving students of all levels and provides opportunities to learn from others as well as from the instructor. Bring your weaving projects and problems to receive help and

instruction. Instructor: C. Farnsworth

$30/student: Students must bring their own loom and supplies. (optional $15 fee for room rental)

Weaving Open Studio Tuesdays, April 3-17 1-4pm Springerville/Eagar Center HCT099X-08

An open weaving studio for previous weaving students to advance their skills. An instructor is available to help and guide you on your projects.

Natural Dye Workshop Friday & Saturday, May 4-5 9am- 4pm Springerville/Eagar Center HCT099X-01

Students will dye protein fiber such as wool, alpaca and others using plant-based dyes. Students will learn to prepare yarn, process the plant materials and dye the yarn using 2 or more dyeing staffs. Students will take home their dyed yarn and records so the process can

be repeated. Instructor: C. Farnsworth

$50/student: Students must bring their own fibers to dye. Cost of class includes all supplies except fiber.

Digital Scrapbooking Tuesdays, Jan. 30–March 6 6:00-8:00pm Holbrook Campus HCT099X-09

Preserve your memories quickly and easily by creating a digital storybook. Students will use photos and memories to create their own storybook. They will learn to use the Heritage Makers program to create their project.

Quilt ‘Till you Wilt: Beginning Quilting Tuesdays, Feb. 6-27 5:30-7:30pm Show Low Campus HCT099X-07

A fun class to learn the art of constructing a "raggy" quilt. This will be a baby-sized quilt or throw but can be scaled once the technique has been learned. Study the basics of measuring, cutting, design, color and

construction. Instructor: M. Stockton

$35/student: Students need to bring a sewing machine, general sewing supplies/notions, approximately 3 yards of flannel fabric (1/2 yard of 6 different patterns) rotary cutter and cutting board.

Greenhouse Organic Growing Fridays, Jan. 5-26 12-4pm Snowflake Campus AGR099X-02

Learn various options of how to plan and set up a solar greenhouse and maintaining a balanced ecosystem within it. Topics include: various functions of a greenhouse, effects of relative shade, heat levels and seasonal changes, container and plant selection, soils, water, ventilation, light, sanitation and organic fertilization.

Raising your own Starts Fridays, Feb. 2-23 12-4pm Snowflake Campus AGR099X-03

Learn how to raise your own vegetable and flower seedlings for your garden. Topics include preparation, making potting soil, seed germination, transplanting, quality light, watering, organic fertilizing and hardening off. This is a hands-on opportunity to experience working with seeds, seedlings and transplanting.

Learn techniques to extend the high-desert gardening season that will enable you to harvest year-round. Topics include: various styles and methods of using cold frames, tunnels, frost and shade covers, wall-o-waters and greenhouse. Choosing specific seed varieties, succession planting and raising sprouts will also be discussed. Instructor: K. Howell-Costion

This class will lead students through fundamental design parameters with solar orientation, insulation, glass and mass. Greenhouse orientation, site evaluation, attached versus freestanding and building materials selection (and use) will be considered.

This class covers collecting and storing rainwater for use in a residence. We will explore how to size a rainwater catchment system according to local rainfall, size of roof collection area, discuss storage tank size, and components such as filtration and purification mechanisms and pumps. Discover the benefits of drinking distilled rainwater!

An exciting class for all levels in line dancing, which can be a great low impact exercise too. Explore the different types of line dancing music, while making the transition to learn the cha-cha, stray cat strut, 10-step and “baby like to rock it!” Grab a friend and come have a good time!

Couples Progressive 2-Step for Beginners Tuesdays, April 10-May 8 6-7pm Snowflake HPE099X-07

A fun dance class for couples to learn something new. Students will learn the basic 2-step and techniques such as turns, leading and cues. Learn 2-steps that will fit with multiple music styles from western, Latin and contemporary. Grab your partner for a fun night out!

Students will be taken through the process of opening a Createspace account and starting a publishing project. The discussion will also include revision (the key to a professional product) and cover design.

Seeing your book in Print! Thursdays, March 22-April 26 2-4pm Show Low Campus STC099X-05

The emphasis of this class will be self-publishing. However, time will be dedicated to what editors and agents look for. Class topics will include revision (the key to a professional product no matter how you choose to publish), cover design and opening a Createspace account. Optional topics chosen by students: dialog, person/point of view, show/don't tell, stronger writing and how to find time to write.
