Every day they risk theirlives to save our homes and prop-erty, our places of work or our
dried forestsand wood-lands, as wellas our ownlives and thatof family andfriends. Sinceour nationaltragedy ofthree yearsago, we haverightly recog-nized our fire-fighters acrossthe country asheroes. Withtheir lives injeopardy atany given
moment while fighting a fire, itis of the utmost importancethese men and women deservethe best, most technologicallyadvanced equipment available.
We all know that when afirefighter enters a burningbuilding an air tank is neces-sary for him or her to completethe task. However, when a fireis particularly large or is out ofcontrol, the tank’s capacitymay not be enough to allowthe firefighter to remain on thescene. So what happens then?
Bauer Compressors of Norfolk,Virginia manufactures an inte-grated breathing air systemmobile trailer which allows firecompanies to refill breathing airbottles on location. The applica-tion of this product is very wide –potentially from city streets tonational parks to presently on mil-itary air bases to our soldiers over-seas. This product also has appli-

The DDTR Mobile TrailerSystems feature a dual drive ofdiesel (Mitsubishi 37hp engine) orelectric power, depending upon theenergy source available at the scene.
The system also includes a genera-tor to power scene lighting and anyadditional electrical devices.
In Bauer’s previous system, acentrifugal clutch had been used toallow the operator to switch fromelectric power to diesel or viceversa. As the system became moreadvanced technologically, theyfound the centrifugal device diffi-cult to control, as well as being
quite costly. They approachedOgura Industrial for a better solu-tion. After evaluating speeds, loadsand duty cycles, the MA-GT-ST1Wmobile/general purpose clutch wasselected. The electric clutch ismounted to the diesel engine, which is belted to the electric
motor, and in turn is belted tothe compressor. This allows theoperator to drive through theelectric motor and still run thecompressor while in dieselmode, but eliminate the enginewhile running the electricmotor. An additional belt allowsthe diesel to run the generatorwithout running the compres-sor, something the centrifugaldevice could not accomplish.
The ST1W has added valueas well as reduced cost to Bauerwhile providing greater flexibil-
ity and better control. The clutch israted at 250 ft. lb. of torque and fea-tures a mounting hub for the pulleyor sheave of the customer’s choice.Ogura is proud to be a part of thissystem.
