• Florasulam (an ALS inhibitor (Group B) herbicide) belonging to the triazolopyrimidine sulfonanilide class of herbicides, which inhibit cell division and cause death in susceptible plants.

Because Paradigm is a mixture of two active ingredients with different modes of action, the potential for weeds to develop resistance is reduced. Weeds that are resistant to herbicides with other modes of action are controlled.

WIDE COMPATIBILITYResearch undertaken overseas and in New Zealand has shown Paradigm is compatible with a range of broadleaf and grass weed herbicides, as well as fungicides, insecticides, plant growth regulators and trace elements. This allows one pass weed, pest and disease control.

Paradigm is compatible with:• Starane™ Advanced and Versatill™ PowerFlo™ herbicides

for control of additional broadleaf weeds. Mixtures with diflufenican are recommended for control of field pansy and speedwell

• Simplicity™ herbicide for control of brome grass, wild oats and ryegrass as well as some broadleaf weeds

• Transform™ insecticide for high level control of aphids.

Consult with Dow AgroSciences regarding further tank mixing partners.

INTRODUCING PARADIGMTM

Paradigm™ is a new, post-emergent herbicide for wheat, triticale and barley that combines robust control of broadleaf weeds with the flexibility of a wide application window and excellent crop safety. Paradigm is particularly active on fumitory and works well in cold conditions. Paradigm is ideally suited to follow pre-emergence applications of Firebird® herbicide.

NEW CHEMISTRYParadigm contains two new, unique active ingredients:• Arylex™ Active (a plant growth regulator (Group O)

herbicide) belonging to a unique subgroup which controls difficult to control weeds not controlled by other group O herbicides.

FLEXIBILITY OF APPLICATION TIMINGParadigm can be applied from 3 leaf to full flag leaf emergence (GS13-39).

• A maximum of two applications per season is recommended. Apply the 1st application any time between GS13 and GS29 (end of tillering). Apply a 2nd application prior to GS39.

Paradigm provides excellent control of key weeds not controlled by Firebird® herbicide (e.g. fumitory and cornbind). Because the weed spectrums of these two herbicides are very complimentary, Paradigm is ideal as the first post-emergence herbicide following pre-emergence applications of Firebird®.

Paradigm can also be applied for late germinating weeds – including as a tank mix with StaraneTM Advanced for wireweed or VersatillTM PowerFloTM for Californian thistle.

EXCELLENT CROP SAFETYParadigm is very selective to wheat, triticale and barley. In 18 trials conducted in Canterbury, on 8 varieties of wheat and 6 varieties of barley, in irrigated and dryland situations no loss of yield was recorded at harvest after application of Paradigm.

EASY TO USE FORMULATIONParadigm is formulated as an easy to use water dispersible granule using GoDRI™ RDT™ technology.

GoDRI RDT are highly concentrated, high-performing formulations that are applied at low doses and therefore require less packaging. Paradigm is easy to measure, will disperse very quickly and will not plug spray nozzles, screens or filters.

LOW APPLICATION RATESWhen ground boom spraying, apply Paradigm at 25g of product/ha in 100-200L/ha of water. For aerial spraying apply Paradigm in 50-100L/ha of water. Ensure thorough spray coverage of weeds at application.

Paradigm is available in a 500gm pack - enough for 20 hectares. Each pack is supplied with a convenient volumetric measuring device allowing for quick and easy measurement.

ADJUVANTSAlways apply Paradigm in mixture with Uptake™ Spraying Oil (1L/ha) – except where mixing with Simplicity herbicide (in which case add Contact™ wetter/spreader at 250ml/100L of spraymix).

ROBUST BROADLEAF WEED CONTROLParadigm is registered for use on the following weeds:• Chamomiles (Matricaria spp.)

• Cleavers (Galium aparine)

• Cornbind (Polygonum convolvulus)

• Fumitory (Fumaria officinalis)

• Shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris)

• Volunteer brassicas (Brassica spp.)

• Wireweed suppression (Polygonum aviculare).

ACTIVITY OF PARADIGM AFTER APPLICATIONParadigm is absorbed through the leaves and shoots as well as the roots of plants before moving into the sap stream to accumulate in the growing points. Treated weeds stop growing almost immediately and their foliage collapses and becomes twisted and yellow in colour. In very cold or slow growth conditions weeds may remain in this state for several weeks. However, because the root system is severely affected, susceptible weeds will die when good growing conditions return. This means that weed control is robust – even in winter conditions.

The best results are obtained from applications to small, actively growing seedling weeds. More advanced stages will be suppressed. Weed control may be reduced by slow growth conditions, or when plants are stressed.

Paradigm has short residual activity in soil (only a few weeks), so only weeds that have emerged at the time of application will be reliably controlled.

OVERSEAS REGISTRATIONS Paradigm is registered in multiple countries around the world including Australia, North America, the UK and Europe. There are many more weeds included on overseas labels although no trial work has been carried out on these weeds in New Zealand to confirm their control.

Overseas registered weeds:• Amaranthus (redroot – Amaranthus retroflexus)

• Chickweed (Stellaria media)

• Clovers (Triflolium spp)

• Fathen (Chenopodium album)

• Henbit (Lamium amplexicaule)

• Linseed (flax – Linum usitatissimum)

• Mallows (Malva spp)

• Mexican poppy (Argemone mexicana)

• Willow weed (Polygonum persicaria)

• Toadrush suppression (Juncus bufonius).

NEW ZEALAND TRIAL DATA 18 trials were carried out in Canterbury, New Zealand to assess weed control. Trials were conducted on both dryland and irrigated sites and the average of the results are presented below:

Fumitory 3 weeks after application, showing decay of the root system while the foliage is still yellow.

Treated fumitory showing purpling and distorted growth.

RAINFASTNESSParadigm is rainfast 1 hour after application.

GRAZING WITHHOLDING PERIODSGreen feed crops: Do not cut crops or allow livestock to graze treated cereals for 7 days after application.

Both active ingredients in Paradigm are rapidly metabolised in cereals. There are no crop residues in hay crops or in straw baled after harvest.

FLEXIBLE RE-CROPPING INTERVALSParadigm is microbially degraded in soil and both active ingredients have a short soil life. Residues of Paradigm decline faster in warm, moist, aerated soils with good organic matter to support microbial breakdown of residues. Dry soil conditions (rainfall less than 100mm between application and harvest) and low organic matter soils may extend the re-cropping intervals.

In the event of crop failure, wheat, triticale and barley may be replanted any time after use of Paradigm. Re-cultivation prior to replanting wheat, triticale and barley is not required.

Additional plant-back trial data from trials in Canterbury is currently being assessed. Refer to the product label for re-cropping intervals.
