COMMODORE’S MESSAGE
Another Opening — Another Show!
As the curtain rises on the 1983 Season at the Avalon Yacht Club, so do our hopes rise for an eventful and successful year.
The Director and Stage Hands have worked through the winter to make this production an interesting and happy one. It will be a limited engagement, so new members and old, come and be a part of it, not just spectators. We need all of you to participate in order to make this an enjoyable summer run.
So now, The flag flies, the music sounds, the lights dim. The play begins.

WOMEN’S AUXILIARYAs I write this on a day in mid-January, the island is cold, barren, and windswept. It seems impossible that in a few months all will change. Soon . . . Soon . . .
The door of the Club is open, the coffee perks merrily, the voices buzz busily, the rummage is attacked once again.
Ah — the ladies have returned!Welcome!

1983 YOUTH AND SAILING ACTIVITIES YOUTHThe Avalon Yacht Club offers a varied Youth Activities Program, Sailing and swimming instructions, open to all sons and daughters of Club members, take place Tuesday through Friday during July and August. Varied youth activities, sponsored by the Women’s Auxiliary, under the direction of Mary MacDonald, will be offered each Thursday night during the season. Activities will include dances, pizza parties and scavenger hunts. Watch your bulletin board and weekly newsletter for an up-date on this year’s youth activities. Joe Helweg, a new member of the Youth Committee, will assist in the activities of the youth program.
The Youth Program will again be under the direction of Club Manager Dave Frick, assisted by the sailing and swimming staff. Your Club believes that we offer the finest Youth Program of any Yacht Club in South Jersey. Remember parents, it is Our Club and Our Youth. Get involved - get active and support the Program.
This summer we are looking forward to picking up right where we left off last season which was highlighted by the Annual Father’s Day Race on Labor Day.
Each Saturday in 1983, your club will be sponsoring events for everyone from the novice to the experienced veteran. We encourage all age groups to join us for a few hours on a Saturday to utilize the Yacht Club to its best advantage.
The purpose of the sailing activities this year is two-fold; to promote an interest in weekend sailing and to provide an opportunity for all club members to meet one another socially.
The 1983 Sailing Activities will be under the direction of your Sailing Chairman, Jamie McDernott and Assistant Sailing Chairman, Joe Abbott. Please feel free to contact either of us with your ideas for an entertaining Saturday morning. The Schedule printed below, with the exception of the Avalon Regatta, is flexible.

It takes guts to make honestly better paint. The more guts, the more it costs. That’s why F&H STORM PLATE 30 and F&H MASTERPIECE and F&H CERAMIKIT FINISH can’t be classified alongside competitors selling at huge discounts. These are our BEST Paints . . . priced as low as their expensive guts permit!
