Hello Everyone! In spite of the hot weather, I hope all are having a great summer. In case you are wondering what the strange picture is about, it was taken at this year’s AAUW Convention. See below. AAUW Convention San Diego: Baton Rouge was represented as I attended the convention. Anne Taylor and I shared a room and caught up a bit. There were more interesting workshops and events than 1 person can attend. Please note the picture in this newsletter. From left to right- myself, a life size poster board decorated with current AAUW items of Marion Talbot who was one of the original founders of AAUW in 1882 and Debbie Freda LA state board. Some of the decorating was done by Debbie and myself.
IRS 501C3: We are continuing to explore the possibility of filing for IRS 501c3 status. Rebecca Triche (our new treasurer) is in charge. Thank you Rebecca!! Sunshine: Karen Groves has graciously volunteer to be our Sunshine person this year. Please contact her with information about member, etc. in need of a bit of Sunshine at [email protected]. Thank you Karen and to all those who help to make our branch successful!! We had very nice attendance at the Annual Meeting (Sat May 9) this year and also at the Planning Meeting on July 12. Thanks to all for making both events successful. The chairs of the various interest groups are including some of the scheduling for future activities. The next Board Meeting will be August 10 (the second Monday) at the Bluebonnet Library at 7:00 pm. Women’s Week is scheduled for September 25 through October 3..We still need a few people to help with our events. If you can participate with one event, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE contact Jan Koellen at [email protected] you!! If you are new to AAUW or just interested in becoming more involved, don’t forget to check the rest of the newsletter for the various activities and signup for those that interest you.

Karen Groves Sunshine Lady
Many thanks to Maxine Rak for being our ‘Sunshine Lady’ who sent cards to our members letting them know we care. Karen Groves has step in to continue ‘letting the Sunshine’ in members lives with cards and whatever is needed to help or encourage our AAUW family.
“There’s no thrill in easy sailing when the skies are clear and blue, there’s no joy in merely doing things which any one can do.
But there is some satisfaction that is mighty sweet to take, when you reach a destination that you thought you’d never make.”
