• June 1940 France falls
• Battle of Britain (Ends May 1941)
• Germany turns towards Soviet Union (June 1941)
Operation Barbarossa
• June 1941 Invades Soviet Union
• Targets Leningrad and Moscow
• By September Germans surrounded Leningrad. [More than 1 million die that winter]
• By December outside of Moscow. [Winter proved fatal for Germany as it did for Napoleon]
Russia had 5 million soldiers—but were poorly trained!
