AMBROIS, MARIA J.URUGUAY

  PAINTING   MIXED TECHNIQUE

The photographs, found in one spe-cifi c context (street market), are taken out of it; giving them a completely new identity based on the existing object. The antique photographs represent that part which is fi xed in us, that stable center, those basic things that one can always re-turn to and which demonstrate the fact that one is and exists (essence, history, family: memory). Using them as an initial base, as a support, they are modifi ed (paint, col-lage or embroidery are used as means to do it) and it that way changes are added; they are given the possibility to choose, they are brought to life, giving them strength, warmth, colour and freedom.

My work concerns the forms engendered by the permanent movements and the successive fi xations in the urban society. I create spaces in balance between appear-ance and disparition, from the precarious architectures and the constructions in de-velopment.
