Powerful and long life evenfor special cylinders.
Short travel distance for high-precisionposition detection.
Exact position detection thanks to a verysmall hysteresis of ≤ 1 mm.
Reliable detection of weak magneticfields.
Convenient:Easy fit “drop from the top” into a slot.
Only 25 mm length sensor formany cylinder sizes.
The online configurator for the ifm cylinder sensors:www.ifm.com/cylindersensor
AMR cell for the sensitive touch. The new cylinder sensors use an AMR sensing element. This operates to the magnetoresistive principle. The AMRcell has an extremely sensitive reaction to magnetic fields. So the sensors can be used wherever exact positiondetection and small hysteresis are important (e.g. short-stroke cylinders).
Robust design and solid fixingThe sensor is immediately locked in the slot by its self-locking mechanism. The moulded cable and fixing pointadditionally provide incomparable strain relief.
Adapter for almost any cylinder profileThanks to the wide selection of adapter accessories theT-slot sensor can be fixed to almost every clean-line, tierod, integrated profile or trapezoidal slot cylinder.

Category is history – now there is SIL and PL.In the past you were familiar with categorisation to EN954-1, this has been replaced by SIL and IEC 62061 andPL to ISO 13849-1.The qualitative approach is no longer sufficient so thequantitative approach has been added. The standardsIEC 62061 and ISO 13849-1 now consider also the aver-age probability of failure of components (called prob-abilistic approach). The new approaches have been developed also becausethe EN 954-1 did not take into account the time behav-iour (e.g. test interval, life time). These characteristics of the sensors or the individualcomponents are described in the Safety Integrity Level(SIL 1-3) and the Performance Level (PL a-e).ifm offers you “safe” assistance, today as well as in thefuture. www.ifm-electronic.com/safeYou can find more information on the standards at:www.zvei.org or www.vdma.org

Direct detection of metalsolves new applications.
Suitable for operator and machine safety.
Reliable function without specificcoded target.
Connection of the sensors to safety PLCs,bus systems and relays possible.
Meets the requirements ofIEC 61508 SIL3 and ISO 13849-1 PL e.
Certified to IEC 62061, SILcl3.
Application: Manway monitoring
Self-monitoring design without coded magnet orcoded target.2 x PNP switching outputs (normally closed function)Because of the window technology used, i.e. an enablezone monitored for target position and dwell time, acounterpart, e.g. a magnet or a special mechanical tar-get is not required. If the target is removed from the enable zone, the out-put circuits open. The fail-safe sensor can be connectedto approved two-channel evaluation units without cross-monitoring that are suitable for positive-switching non-contact guards. In case of a fault, e.g. cross fault of thewires, the sensor passes into the defined safe state.

Backlights for contour andorientation verification.
Ultra-flat design, as cable orconnection version (pigtail).
Permanent light or pulse operation.
Additional operating mode for4 times more light.
Three illuminated field sizes.
Infrared or red light.
Ultra-flat designThe new generation of ifm‘s backlights can be screwedonto a wall or fixture requiring only little space due tothe extremely flat design of only 9.2 mm.
Various operating modesThe backlights allow operation with two different lightintensities due to the microprocessor technology: In the“normal” mode the element can work in the permanentor pulsed mode, in the “high” mode pulse operationwith 4 times more light is possible. The exposure time isthus reduced by 75 to 80 %, which is an advantageespecially for fast processes.
Numerous variantsThe backlights generate a homogeneous light field withvisible red or invisible infrared light. They can be obtainedin three different sizes.

ImprovementsThe redesign of the PP sensors provides higher accuracyand an improved housing. Programming can now beeffected via IO link by means of FDT or the program-ming and display unit PP2001.The output of the PP7 series is positive switching, therespective counterpart with negative-switching outputis the PP05 series. The user can choose between two switching outputs orone switching output and one diagnostic output. In addition to the existing CE and cULus approvals thesensors also comply with the EN50155 standard andtherefore they are also railway compliant. Furthermorethe sensors have been developed to the requirements ofthe e1 type approval of the German Federal Office forMotor Traffic and therefore they are e1 compliant.(e1 type approval on request)

Use in combination with the FDT technologyThe USB interface can be used in combination with thesupplied ifm FDT Container. The FDT technology standardises the communicationinterface between field devices and the system environ-ment. The special feature of this technology is that it isindependent of the communication protocol used andthe software environment. Moreover, the user is inde-pendent of the selected unit and control system used.In brief: With FDT it is possible to address any unit via any system using any protocol – now also via thestandardised USB interface.

• Not only an alternative to mechanical switchesThe switching temperature sensor of the TK series hasmore to offer. Using mechanical switches the usermust often “search” for the switch point when thesystem temperature is applied.Things are much easier using the TK temperature sen-sor: The requested switch point can be set using thesetting rings without system temperature being ap-plied and can be directly read on site. This saves timeand costs.
• The correct sensor for each applicationAs an option, the TK is available with adjustable setand reset points or two switch points with fixedhysteresis.
• Long life and accuracyThe pre-selected Pt1000 sensors ensure the long lifeand accuracy of the sensor. Furthermore, the TK tem-perature sensor has a very good repeatability of ± 0.1 K.
• Everything at a glanceTwo clearly visible LEDs indicating the switching statusand readiness for operation provide the requiredtransparency.

TA integrated in a hydraulic application
Universal temperature sensorThe temperature sensors of type TA are universal trans-mitters with integrated AS-i slaves (TAA131) or 4...20 mAoutputs (TA3130 / TA3131). For the AS-i transmitter thedata is transmitted according to the analogue protocol7.3 which is implemented in all masters to AS-i specifi-cation 2.1 as standard. When the temperature sensor hasbeen connected to the AS-i interface, the AS-i masterdetects the sensor automatically and starts data transfer. The analogue units (TA3130 / TA3131) provide a tem-perature-proportional 4...20 mA signal.A high level of accuracy is achieved using Pt sensor ele-ments of accuracy class A. In addition, ifm’s tried andtested film technology ensures excellent dynamic re-sponse times.

This allows optimisation of the uptime ofplant sections such as gears, electric motors, ventilatorsand spindles and increasing the efficiency in production. The compact diagnostic system analyses the vibrationsignals according to the methods of frequency analysis.A micromechanical accelerometer acts as the sensingelement. The data is recorded and analysed in a decen-tralised way and evaluated by the system. The explosion-protected version has a cable to transmitcommunication and alarm. The alarm is indicated via aswitching contact or pulse-width modulated progressdisplay.

Common technical data (extract)
controllereDP+Ethernet AC1365 (AC1366)
Advantages and customer benefits
• Safety at Work diagnosisThe integrated diagnostic tool enables the detectionof connected safety slaves and their status. All status information can be read from the connectedsafety monitors and evaluated via the fieldbus inter-face or the integrated display. This enables selectiveuser guidance for fault rectification.
• Local diagnosisClearly visible status LEDs indicate important AS-i andfieldbus operating states. They can be seen from adistance and indicate the correct operation (green) orcertain selected operating modes, e.g. projection mode(yellow), faults such as missing slaves (red). The text display shows detailed information referringto the fault location and a clear fault number. Thisallows service without complex diagnostic software inthe PLC.
• AS-i to specification 3.0As M4 masters the devices support the automaticexchange of data with all slaves to the AS-i specifica-tion 3.0. Therefore A/B slaves with four inputs andoutputs or analogue A/B slaves can now also be used.
• PLC function / programming to IEC 61131-3The programming environment CoDeSys includes thelanguages FBD, IL, LD, SFC and ST.Recipe management, data tracing and visualisation arepart of the software as well as the convenient configu-ration of the AS-i master. A complete I /O check is pos-sible via the graphical user interface.
ApplicationThe AS-i controllere family can be used in a wide rangeof different applications. It is indispensable whereverdecentralised I /Os, modular design and high performancein the gateway are important. These gateways are firmlyestablished in conveying, special purpose machinery, handling technology and food industry.Gateway operation and structure of the data fields arethe same for all fieldbuses. This is the constant factor inprojection work for users who have to work with differ-ent fieldbuses.

ProcessLine moduleAC2916
• ECOLAB testThe test sample is subjected to a predefined test pro-cedure for material resistance.Test criteria are the complete immersion in an alkalineand acid cleaning and disinfecting agent for 28 days. After this time, the test samples are subjected to ameasurement of mass difference as well as to a visualinspection with respect to swelling, embrittlement andchange of colour.
• IP 69K ingress resistance testThe goal of this test is to simulate requirements ofhigh-pressure cleaning as, for example, those given inthe food industry. In the test fixture, the module and the connector aresubjected to a water jet of 80...100 bar at a tempera-ture of 80 °C.The duration of each cleaning cycle is 30 seconds. The spray nozzle is located at a defined angle and at adistance of 10...15 cm from the test sample.
VersionsIn addition to the analogue input module, the ProcessLinefamily includes a passive splitter module (AC2900).Furthermore, an AS-i module with 4 inputs and 3 out-puts (AC2904) or a module with 8 digital inputs in theextended addressing mode (AC2910) are available.

AirBox AC5228
• Advantages and customer benefitsNew valve functions, slide valve technology and anincreased pressure peak resistance are the main newfeatures of the AirBoxes. The easy mounting of the AirBoxes onto the AS-i flatcable using the new quick mounting technology en-sures the user of maximum security. The additional FAULT LED as well as the LEDs for indi-cation of the logical state of the PLC outputs are stan-dard for all AirBox versions. The AirBoxes can be easily addressed before mountingusing the implemented addressing interface withoutvoltage being applied.
• Pneumatic functionThe AirBox in 2 x 3/2-way design is an excellent choicefor the connection of two single-acting cylinders. Inthe event of compressed air failure these cylinders gointo a safe position. The 5/2-way AirBox (monostable /bistable), as well asthe 5/3-way AirBox, is particularly suited for the useof double-acting actuators. This valve function prevents, for example, dropping ofa load in the event of compressed air failure due to theblocked middle position. In the past this valve function could only be solvedwith the AirBox using additional accessories such as apilot-operated non-return valve, directly on the cylin-der.

ClassicLine module AC5235
• Advantages and customer benefitsThe flat cable can be inserted from three differentdirections. The upper and lower parts are no longermounted by four screws but by a slide.Quick and very safe mounting are guaranteed. All controls and indicators are located on the frontdisplay. Thanks to their high luminosity the LEDs areparticularly easy to see. Signal states, operating volt-age and faults are indicated.
• Additional diagnosisThe FAULT LED on the module enables exact faultlocation for the user.A red flashing LED indicates a peripheral fault, whichimplies either a short circuit of the sensor supply or anoverload of the output. A permanently lit red LEDhowever indicates a communication fault. In addition to the LEDs above, the digital outputmodules feature an LED displaying the logic state ofthe plc outputs.
• SetupThe modules can be addressed either without voltagebefore mounting or when mounted and wired via theimplemented addressing socket.

Technical dataThe safe module of the Universal series has two safety-related OSSD inputs. An output of a two-channel electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) to EN 61496-1 canbe connected. The two outputs of the protective equipment must bemonitored for cross faults.
Advantages and customer benefits
• Diagnosis and self-testThe safe Universal module carries out a periodic internalself-test after power on. This is transferred as safestate to the master (triggered = code sequence “0000”).After start up and successful function test the Safetyat Work protocol is started. The two safe inputs arenow ready for operation.During operation the module is permanently moni-tored, with build-in redundancy.
• The Safety at Work systemIn principle, the AS-i safety technology consists of twocomponents:1. A safe input slave for connection of fail-safe sensors.2. The safety monitor as monitoring device with forcedrelays for a safe switch-off of the drives or actuators.
• AddressingAddressing is done either before installation via theadapter integrated into the addressing unit or afterinstallation via the addressing socket of the modulelower part using an addressing cable.Addressing via the controllere from ifm electronic iseven more convenient. The large graphic display givesthe user an optimum overview.
ApplicationThe safe AS-i Universal module can be used in a widerange of different applications. It is suitable where de-centralised I /Os, modular design and simplicity of the sys-tem are important and a high protection rating againstenvironmental influence is required at the same time.

FunctionsThe ID tags are mounted on the objects to be identified(tanks, goods or workpiece carriers). When they comeinto the detection range of the read/write heads(read/write module), the information is read at up to 0.5m/s. The data transfer is controlled by the AS-i controllevel (master, controller, gateway, host). The read/writeheads are used in the AS-i network as analogue slavesaccording to the profile 7.4 or 7.3 with a master control-ling up to 31 slaves. The transmission of energy between the passive ID tagand the read/write head is based on the physical princi-ple of inductive coupling with a frequency of 125 kHz.The compact read/write head includes, in addition tothe antenna, the complete evaluation and the interfaceto AS-i, so that the units can be directly operated in theAS-interface network and so that the transmission ofdata to the controller is possible.

Functions and advantages
• Mechanical structureThe Ethernet camera O2M has a fully sealed diecastzinc housing to the protection rating IP 69K. The twointegrated M12 connectors provide all important con-nections for supply and communication. The devicecan be mounted directly onto the mobile vehicle viaan adapter system. With temperature-controlled window heating thecamera objective can be defrosted in case of extremeweather conditions.
• Camera electronicsThe modern CMOS sensor, the powerful controllerand the integrated firmware are the basis for imagecapture and processing. So the user can set, for exam-ple, white adjustment and colour saturation individu-ally, if necessary.
• Additional functions for digitalimage capturingThe digital capturing and transmission of the imagedata enable scaling and free positioning of the cameraimage. With a splitscreen representation, up to fourcamera images can be simultaneously displayed onthe PDM360 dialogue monitor. In addition, the PDM360 can be used to store indivi-dual images on a compact flash card. They can, forexample, be used for protocolling.
• Parameter setting with IEC 61131-3 functionsParameter setting of the camera functions and datatransmission are done directly from the PDM360application programmed with CoDeSys.Using function blocks, the displayed camera imagescan be mirrored, rotated, zoomed and scaled. If neces-sary, visualisation elements and the camera image canbe shown simultaneously.
• Ethernet interfaceThe O2M camera is fitted with an Ethernet interfacefor communication. In contrast to analogue camerasystems, the camera image can be shown on anynumber of displays via a simple Ethernet hub or switch. It is also possible to connect several O2M cameras to adisplay in this way.
