THE COLLEGE OF MUSIC
Inspired by the NEU Vision “A world-class Institution of learning with a unique Christian culture of excellence,discipline and serv ice to humanity ”, the NEU Mission “Prov ide quality education anchored on Christian values withthe prime purpose of bringing honor and glory to God” and the CoM Motto “Sharing God’s gift of music to ourfellowmen”, the College of Music of New Era University started to offer Bachelor of Music Program in Piano, Voice,Choral Conducting, & Music Education in SY 2011-2012.
The College of Music env isions itself to be the training ground for future musicians with a high degree of excellencein musical performance, pedagogy and scholarship. It endeavors to produce musicians who are well grounded inmusical theory and prepared for the rigors of musical performance, teaching, research and composition. Itsoverarching aim is to develop students’ creativ ity and artistry as artists, scholars and church musicians. Its guidingphilosophy is that all music is for the glory of the Almighty God.

The general objectives of the college are as follows:
Prov ide an educational env ironment that would hone the musical abilities, skills and commitment of music
students
Upgrade and elevate the pedagogical and creative standards of music education in the country and
contribute to a richer musical env ironment of the University and the Church
Mold musicians of world class standards in the fields of performance, composition, church music and
research
The specific objectives of the college are as follows:
Train students to become adept in music performance, composition, teaching and research
Develop students with high commitment and passion for music that is guided by the highest ethical standards
Strengthen the artistic and scholarly abilities of students
Identify and attract talented y oung musicians all over the country and the world to be trained in
performance, teaching and research
Attract and retain faculty members who commit themselves to the musical and scholarly activ ities of the
College
Take an active role in music education programs in the community , the academe and the Church
Expand the application of music to other disciplines like medicine and the social sciences.
The college offers degree and non-degree programs. For degree programs, the courses offered are theBachelor of Music in Piano, Voice, Choral Conducting and Music Education. These are four-y ear degree coursescomposed of eight semesters and two summers.
Requirements for admission to the degree programs are as follows:
High School General Average not lower than 80%
NEU College Entrance Exam (c/o Guidance Office)
Theory and Solfeggio Exams (c/o College of Music Office)
Transferees and Shifters must undergo theory and solfeggio exams. (Only those who passed the theory and
solfeggio exams will proceed to the talent auditions).
Talent Auditions for:
a. Bachelor of Music in PIANO [Czerny technical exercises or its equivalent; Bach Two or Three-Part inventions or any Bach Prelude and Fugue; Mozart, Beethoven or Hydn sonata – firstmovement; Any piece of choice] b. Bachelor of Music in VOICE [One (1) Italian song; One (1) Kundiman song] c. Bachelor of Music in CHORAL CONDUCTING [Must show proficiency in piano and voice] d. Bachelor of Music in MUSIC EDUCATION [Must show proficiency in piano and voice]
Note: Students who passed the talent audition will have their College Routing Slip andInterviewer’s Report signed by the College of Music Dean before enrolment.
-Music Preparatory Program: (non-degree program) The non-degree program may be taken for the following purposes: a. Serves as a preparation for talent audition and solfeggio/theory examinations for collegeapplicants who later on intend to enroll in Music degree programs. b. For those persons who do not intend to pursue a degree in Music but would like to learn orhone their music skills or talents in singing or playing a musical instrument.
This program is a non-unit course/non-degree program consisting of ten (10) lessons for onesemester or one summer. This is offered every semester/summer term. This is not a certificateprogram but a student enrolled in this program will be given a certificate of attendance if he orshe satisfactorily completes the lessons in the semester/summer term. A culminating activity orrecital is to be held at the end of each course every semester/summer term. A student’sparticipation in the recital will be based on the recommendation of the MPP teacher (i.e.,whether the student is prepared to participate in the recital or not).
Beginners or advanced students can enroll in the program; audition is not required except forthe Hammond Organ enrollees. A piano audition is required for Hammond Organ enrollees. Theschedule of classes/lessons depends on the time availability of the student.
MPP offers the following lessons:
1. Music Theory and Solfeggio Class – minimum of five students (10 meetings – 2hours/meeting once or twice a week)
2. Individual Lessons (10 lessons – 1 hour/session once or twice a week)
-Piano -Hammond Organ -Voice -Violin/Viola -Cello -Trumpet -Flute -Clarinet -Trombone -Saxophone -French Horn -Guitar -Bandurria
