Function

• The nervous system is responsible for regulating and maintaining homeostasis.

• Through its receptors, the nervous system keeps us in touch with our environment, both external and internal.

Cooperating with Other Systems

• Cardiovascular system: nervous system modulates heart rate, contractile strength and vascular tone.

Types

• Central: consists of the brain and spinal cord.

• Peripheral: connects the central nervous system to sensory organs (such as the eye and ear), other organs of the body, muscles, blood vessels and glands.

Making the Nervous System

1. With some of the clay, mold a brain. Leave a hole at the bottom. Paint.

2. With the rest of the clay, mold a spinal cord. Paint.

3. Push the clay of each together. Glue onto the poster board.

4. Cut one foot of yarn and cut it in half. From a few inches from the top of the spinal cord, glue each piece of yarn to each side.

5. Cut one-in-a-half feet of yarn and cut it in half. From the bottom of the spinal cord, glue each piece of yarn to each bottom-side.

6. Congratulations! You made a 3-D model of a nervous system!
